View Full Version : Who wants to answer this question AGAIN?

Okay, time for me to be dumb again. The short part of this story is that the last guy to own my car screwed up just about everything possible before he gave it to me. Every time I try to do anything, I find something else he @#$%ed up. In conclusion, I have to get a new muffler before I put my rear bumper on.

Now for the many times repeated question: I need a muffler for the sol. Here are the tricks. I need the tip to be in the middle of the muffler, like so:

[ o ]

(no sexual remarks on the resemblences of my crude diagram)

Next: I want quiet. Most people say "oh this one isn't too bad...". Well, I don't want 'not too bad', I want a nice, low, quiet muffler. If I can't get a quiet aftermarket muffler, I'll buy a stock one. But I don't want to do that. ;)

Anyway, if anyone is tired of answering this question, just flip me off and I'll go back to sleep. But any suggestions would be most welcome.

That's what I wanted to hear, someone who actually had one that worked well. Thanks, man. Now to find one cheap.

if you really want "quiet" as in same-as-stock, you can get an apex-i muffler with the optional silencer. its cool because you can remove the silencer whenever you want, and apex-i makes very good performance mufflers. here's a link to apex-i's website:

I bought an Apexi WS cat back. Real nice, It's quiet but also has a nice low deep tone to it. I don't like the 4" tip though.

Go custom, get a shop to mandrel bend pipes and then run a dynomax or borla muffler. The sound is deep and mellow and the tip will be in the center of the exhaust like you asked. I'm running a dynomax with mandrel 2.25" piping on my Jetta project and the sound is awesome.

i have a dynomax with custom 2.25" piping too and i like it. dont have mandrel bent pipes though. the sound is good, not farty, and not too loud, just a little louder than stock. its probably the quietest performance muffler available without a silencer.
