just be honest and tell them you are too well to come into work. Or tell them that you are blind, and you just can't see comming into work.

Ok-I SERIOUSLY need help here! What I'm really going to do is go out of town with a friend and I can't say "O ya, just felt like skipping work so I could go out with this person" :paranoid:

I know it is, but I feel really bad! I NEVER EVER take days off work!

And I'm afraid they won't let me off unless I come up with something clever

sorry, can't help you there. i've always been honest with my boss about whether or not i want to come in. and they usually appreciate the honesty rather than being lied to. if they find out later that you skipped just to go out with someone they would be more upset about being lied to.

Be upfront (sort of) and say you need to take a day off to take care of some personal business. If they ask what that is, you say it's personal and you will discuss it at another, more appropriate time.

Then you take your day off and think of what the "personal business" was in case the man (or woman perhaps) in charge really presses you to disclose.

You should be able to take a personal day off every so often and not have to have an excuse...that seems reasonable to me. Just make sure you take steps to have someone cover for you if need be.

Take a proactive approach. Bosses like that.

Ya-I've been there 1 yr. and 3 months, and I've taken like 3 days off, once when I was really really really sick, once when I was snowed in, and I cant remember the other one, but it had to have been a VERY good reason as well.

that might work though, keep the ideas coming guys!

What about asking to work a half-day and then having someone cover the other half? Then you get some time off and the boss doesn't have to worry about someone being out.

GirlRacer

ok-on the half day thing, I have to leave next thursday night at 7-(I need friday off) plus, law offices don't run that way, but keep the ideas coming, I HAVE TO HAVE SOMETHING though up by tomorrow!

Better yet, building on Mt. Biker's response, go into work, take an "emergency" phone call from a "family member" and say you need to leave.

But if you go that route, you better have a damn good excuse when you get back.

You have options, you just have to figure out what is most appropriate. We don;t know your boss, co-workers or working relationship status so we're just shooting in the dark so to speak.

Tell your boss that you had a family emergency, and if he/she asks what it was, say its private. that shouldn't fail...its perfectely valid.

I agree with Ty.. Just tell them that you have some personal business to attend to. Most of the time they dont ask to many questions.. Are you taking off for the rest of the week? That may get a little trickier..

Tell them you had a family member out of state die and you need to go to the funeral. :o

you're going to mexico to see the sites and do some shopping.....or just say you need a day off to spend some time with your family...or you could say you promised your dad you'd help him with something...you have to help a friend move....or you could just do a nocall/noshow and say you forgot that you had to work...i could go on...

if they ask what the "personal business" is.. tell them it's PERSONAL... if they press... start talking about your vagina and discharges... that'll get any man or woman off your back...

and if you tell them about your personal life they'll probobly believe it... jfwy..
