Running 55 shot is safe on stock internals that are in good working condition. You'll want to get a compression test to verify that your cylinders are holding up ok.

One big thing people tend to miss is that if you have any existing problems, nitrous will not fix them. In most cases it'll make them worse. This holds true for any method of forced induction though.

What model & year car do you have (I'm assuming its a Civic since this is the Civic Forum)? Also what kit & what type of kit are you looking at?

Just as a side note...
On my previous car, 98 EX Auto, I ran 55 shot for a few months then stepped it up to 65. The internals held up extremely well.

As with any high performance modification, it does require maintenance. Frequently checking the plugs, periodic timings checks, etc.

Its a 99 Civic LX, thats a canadian model so US equivalent model is the DX, its a 4 door.

55 shot won't be a problem. Being a 99 I doubt you have any compression issues. The only thing that you should change is your plugs. You need to run one step colder. You can check out http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/ to find the right heat range. ZEX did a very good job of designing their kits to work with stock internals.

YOu won't have any problems with a 55 shot. Have fun and enjoy it.

Hmmm what exactly do colder plugs do:confused: And how do you check the timing:confused: Do you have to have a shop cehck it for you?

When you spray nitrous it causes the internale temperature to rise. This is due to the added amount of O2 into the engine. If you run this on your stock spark plugs, it will essentially turn them into a glow plug. This allows for the possibility of pre-ignition since the plug insulator is very hot. Pre-ignition is bad, VERY BAD. It can cause all sorts of damage to an engine.

A colder plug has a shorter insulator on it which allows the plug to run cooler. The insulator is the part that gets the hottest on spark plugs.

Check out http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/techinfo/spark_plugs/overviewp2.asp . It explains it in depth.

As far as timing goes. You basically need a timing gun(about $50) and bit of knowledge. I would get a Helms manual to guide you on this. And yes you can have your local shop check it out for you.

::no:: DO NOT RUN ANYTHING HIGHER THAN A 50 SHOT ON STOCK INTERNALS...u'll blow that motor through the hood of your car

LoL... You're kidding right?

There's no way you could do that unles you sprayed for long time(I'm talkin minutes). I ran 55 shot on stock internals for a long time without ANY issues. Actually 75 ahot as well if want to get into it. The ZEX kit is one of the safest on the market.

eXNBP, 45 shot won't give you much of a kick. Not to mention it'll be hard to find a 45 shot kit unless you go sneaky pete. I'd recommend shelling out the money for the ZEX kit. You can start at 55 shot and work your way up.

Good Luck...and Enjoy.

spraying that amount won't hurt at all..just don;t get trigger happy and you will be fine...

As mentioned alot of people have engine problems and run NOS and it doesn't help the situation it makes it worse...

use it when needed and don't abuse it...;) :)

I've seen it happen before...:| he must have had a bad engine to start with...
