So I come around a bend on a highway by my house going like 63 in a 55... these 2 cars behind me are gaining and i figure speeding. there's a cop hiding around the next corner - i pass, and so do the other cars. the cop sorta sits there, then takes off. my girlfriend and i are SURE it HAS to be to get one of those cars for speeding. sure enough, the cop flies by them and pulls me over for my "illegal muffler" in Virginia. so freakin ridiculous. i got off but he said i needed to take it off and if he pulled me over again anytime soon i'd get fined. it's a damn OBX exhaust and there are a million other louder mufflers in my city. how wack is that? ugh... first time for me getting shit for my car by a cop so im sorta in new territory.

That sux man......I've never understood exhaust noise laws. You've got muscle cars and harley's that are a hell of alot louder than most imports, yet you rarely hear of them getting pulled over for it.

maybe they're just against the overpowered lawnmower sound ;)

^there are a lot of Imports that dont sound like Overpowered lawnmowers with exhaust so ease up, plenty of exhaust sound great (as in a deep low rich sound)

I've been pulled over several times but never cited. In just about every case, however, it was late at night. So, I figure they're just profiling and looking for a reason to pull me over to make sure I'm not drunk.
The laws (in Florida at least) are very unclear about the legality of such exhaust, but the cops like to use the "If it isn't from the factory, it's illegial" approach. I don't even want to think about the costs, time, and work it would take to get a stock exhaust again

My exhaust is an OBX.. it's not a crappy tin sound or anything. In fact it's a really nice deep tone. Anyway yeah, I looked at VA laws last night online and I couldn't find anything about mufflers or even noise from vehicle laws. And like I said, 2 cars behind me were gaining fast and prob going 70, yet I am the one who was pulled over. So stupid. :pukey

cops would have a field day here if they pulled over for noise regulations, ive heard of a few but not many. Since we have all those rednecks with their jack up trucks and "flows" or "straights" that they are so proud of

thats crazy....there's no real way to tell if an exhaust is "to loud". But yeah....i hate driving around at night in a car that has an exhaust.....just for the fact it's an easy way to get pulled over for the most part

I agree when you say that Harlys are a lot louder, but they dont get any crap for it. I have been pulled over once for my exhaust. It wasnt because it was too loud, it was because he wanted to buy one for his ZX3 and wanted to know what kind I had.
