The trany on my brothers lude went out and I brought it in to the dealer to get it fixed, The tech told me that it went out because of the aftermarket shift knob. I nearly had a heart attack after hearing that. I told him to explane to me, without sounding retarded, why a screw on shift knob would hurt the transmission. He could not, but they still believe it was the knob that caused the damage. All I can say is "wow"

Was it covered under warranty? Or was that just his excuse?

Ive never seen a shift knob make a transmission go out. :o

Atleast they did fix it, and not try to use it as an excuse to not pay for it.

Yeah Rob, every American Honda dealer is crooked, and every Canadian dealer is honest :D :D :D

Anyway, that really sucks. At least they're going to fix it

people are more honest up here, you'd be surprised. Might take a visit though... couldnt' say all the way down there how things are up here.

Yeah, I've been to Canada. British Columbia to be exact. You're generalizing too much. Maybe to Honda dealerships in TO are the way you desribed, but you can't generalize Canada, just as I can't generalize the US. Anyway, sorry for the deviations... back on topic :)

well i have seen this happen, it's not the knob itself but usually a short throw. you could never prove it but what ends up happening is your hands get quicker your feet don't and you end up tearing up the cones on synchros. you could never prove it in court though so most dealers ignore it and if it comes back a second time you are SOL. that is one of the weirdest excuses to boot a car i have ever heard.

of course then again i booted a CRV with a complaint of poor braking cause he had aftermarket 16" wheels that weighed a good 25 lbs a wheel not including the tires. high quality American Racing wheels :pukey

It has the selectable automatic and there is no button to engage the mechanism

so it's a sport shift lude? there fore an automatic?? you have got to be kidding me, that's the WORST excuse i have ever heard. I was referring to manual transmissions. it's a 97-01 i take it. call another dealer or call your local DSM and explain the situation to him. now that's what i call a bogus deal.

didn't honda have recalls on the sport shifts ludes ? something to do with tight clearances inside the tranny ?
