I am attempting to install XP on my friends computer. He currently has Windows ME. I put in the CD, clicked install XP, it started the installation proceedure and then restarted. After the restart it went into this screen where it has the partitions. I tried deleting the Windows Me partition but it wont let me. It WILL let me install XP on the same partition as the Windows Me, but I dont want that. I want to have XP only..Any help?

Ya it was a blue screen. It wouldnt let me delete the main partition (FAT32) because it said that there was windows installation files and that it would not let me delete. I went ahead and decided to install XP on the existing partition and turned something into NTFS? I dunno. Seems to be working. So far so good.

With windows, it's best to actually backup stuff, reformat and then reinstall. It's microsoft for crying out loud :D
From previous experience I found that the install lasts longer without major problems if you make a fresh install...

ME sucks ass. it is NOT upgradable to XP.

enter your BIOS, and change your boot device to CD rom first.

with the cd in the drive, boot up the computer, it should boot to the CD. go through, and delte the current partition, and then format a new one (ntfs owns) and put it there.
