Yup, I just got a letter in the mail. The only way service won't get screwed is if AT&T can purchase... ::yes::

Yup, when I started my computer today, it made me download a config program so I could continue to use the internet. At least my internet still works!

Although I don't use @home anymore, I've had to WIN VNC into 8 of my friends' computers to fix their email. The cable provider (Rogers) has done a terrific job screwing the transition up in every possible way. I wouldn't be surprised if 25% of current cable customers switched to DSL within the next few months.

want the best ? Try www.earthlink.net . i had the for 3 years now and i'm really happy with them. tried at&t and AOL wich sucked. ELN offers cable now in a few areas, and their dsl rocks. My modem did not go out of sync in ages. The only problems that i had were on 9-11 when they reroutd the servers from NYC to Cleveland-Chhago and when they rerouted them back 1 month ago. If u ever decide to switch to them tell them sdobre reffered you.

LOL...I had earthlink before I got cable and it was the biggest piece of shit ISP i've ever seen. I prepaid for a year service and lost half the money because it was soo slow I switched before the year was up. Now i'm on @home cable and its been GREAT except for this thing lately. If they dont come to an agreement then I will get DSL but if they do then i'm happy right where I am.

Hey Smitty good to see a former PH member at another board. I've had to do the same VNC into a few comps to do the stupid transition too

Good to see you here too!
I just can't understand why they didn't use the same one word hosts as @home used (eg. mail, news, etc.). And the changes to the username format... Man, a team of trained monkeys could have put together a better transition.

I had to use full addresses anyways even when it was @home with the router and stuff so I don't really care about that but its such a pain, switching over with their mail servers being down as usual and stuff and all your friends calling you cuz they have no idea what the hell is going on hehehe

Yeah, I always used the full addresses too... good ol' mail.ym1.on.wave.home.com ;)

The people who are really screwed by this are people like my mom. She uses Netscape 4.x, and it doesn't accept usernames with the "@" symbol, so you can't retrieve your new rogers email using it. My mom hates outlook, and her computer is too slow to run Netscape 6. So now I have to go home after exams and upgrade her system. Thanks Rogers :(

Arg, you're right, it's going to come to that since Win2k can't accept different processor/motherboard configs. Aw man, there goes at least one day of my holiday!

What combinations are you guys using? I have alot of different motherboard/chip sets running in my house and they all use win2k, Other than the fact that it doesnt run all of my games, I love it. (gona give Winxp Pro a try though)

I used to have a PII400, Asus P2B, 256 ram.
In August, I upgraded to a Thunderbird 1200, Asus A7V, 768 ram, ultra 100, etc..

Win2k bluescreened on startup and wouldn't boot again, even with the original hardware config in place. I still haven't figured out how to make a "portable" Win2k installation.
