Introducing the i865PE chipset from Intel codename Springdale

the "budget" line in their new duo. the Canterwood i875 is the "professional" line. the two chipsets are virtually identical and thus intel has really goofed on this one.

Boards with i865PE expected to sell from 100-150 with a wide array of options. Boards with i875 selling for 200-260.

There is only one manufacturer that is listed on several sites as having them. That would be MSI.

I ordered one tonight along with a new 2.4b. hoping for 3.6ghz again, but this time with dual ddr instead of single like on my single channel i845 Brooksdale board.

The site showed they would be available to ship on 4/22 so i'm just waiting for them to come through with it. :)

gotta love upgrades. ;)

Anyone contemplating upgrading any time soon and think that AMD is definately by far cheaper should check into this chipset. the price difference using this board and a 2.4b compared to the best overclocking AMD setup is about 50 dollars which is not huge. Not to mention the Intel will blow the doors off the AMD.

So what are the differences in the chipsets then?

the only differences are that the 875 has more pins and can support ECC ram for server duties. Thats about it.
