ok..i will have the oil pressure line going from the turbo to the back of the engine block to that ... oil pressure swtich?? something like that..
but now i got to drill a hole i the oil pan and i need to wrap that hose, that wrapped hose, where should it go???
this is just the par that i don'd understand too well.. i need to know everthing very well before i install it
so help me out
thanks
MrCLoWnY
12-06-2001, 01:35 AM
i think your talkin about the oil return line. I drilled the hole facing the front. Make sure that you drill the hole as high as you can without hitting the anything becuz the oil won't return properly if the hole is submerged in oil. Also i tied the wrapped hose with platic tie so that it wont move around but you probably wont have any problems installing. When i installed my kit i had no idea what i was doin so it was hella difficult and hard and took me a long time. But there nothing like the satisfaction of installing your own stuff. And you'll love the instant power gains. Btw how much can you get the Type 31 intercooler??? Hook it up. Laters.
xbird
12-06-2001, 03:17 PM
so that oil return line is connected to the turbo?? right??
i am not too sure about the intercooler, i would say around 5 30 or 550 ... something liekthat
let me know,if u want it, i will ask him for u
MrCLoWnY
12-06-2001, 03:35 PM
Hey xbird thats $550 for the type31???? hey do you think u can get me one of those bad boys??????
And the oil return line goes from the turbo.
xbird
12-06-2001, 03:47 PM
yes it's around 550..
let me make sure the price for u
so that means for the turbo, it will one two oil lines coming out..
one to the pan, one to the pressure switch?

it goes like this.....
engine block (oil pressure switch)------> turbo-------> oil pan
the oil coming from the pressure switch is the oil supply/feed.
oil coming from the turbo is the drain/return oil.......
oil being supplied to the turbo has to circulate and DRAIN as much as possible to prevent "caking" of oil when the engine is shutdown. it also lowers the temperature of the turbo by a constant recirculation of the oil.

Hey everyone, I have been offline for a while. My mom is dying of lung cancer (if you smoke, stop!) and I just have not had the time lately to do much as far as my Honda habit.
Xbird, the instructions are 80% completed on my site including how to hook up the oil pressure line with photos. The only thing that is not on the site is the piping and downpipe assembly which is, for the most part, self explanatory but I will add it to the site I have just been busy like I said. Thanks for the reminder man.

Hey everyone, thanks for the kind words about my mom. It is very appreciated.
Hey Thermal, when you say that the oil pressure switch is below the oil filter didn't you mean above it? Mine is above the oil filter and I thought they were all that way. Maybe you were looking up at yours from underneath your car and thought of yourself as being "on top" so therefore everything was reversed, hehe.
Anway, here is a link to where the switch is - http://www.turbocivic.net/images/teemnt.jpg Notice where the oil filter mount is and just above it is the brass tee with the oil pressure line going to the left and the oil sensor on the top. It is kind of fuzzy but I will take another photo on my next oil change.
later,
steve
yea, my oil pressure switch is above the oil filter too.
hey steve, you are pushing 8.5 psi? What do you have to manage your fuel?
thanks in advance,
aj

AJ - I was at 8.5 with the blue box and then turned it down to 7 to be on the safe side.
Xbird - the photo was taken under my car with me laying down on my creeper with my head pointed to the back and my feet hanging out to the front. That axle you see in the pic is the left axle. You really ought to get the Helm manual man, it can't be beat as a reference for your car.

anywyas, just want to share with u guys !!1
i am going to install my short shifter next week, and maybe probably the turbo too.....
it sounds like lots of work for the turbo, i am delaying it, coz i am so so so tired............ and i am really scared i will not get my car working after i installed the turbo....
i hope it won't........
BTW, hehe.. lots of questions, when you tap ur boost gauge tube to the vacuum line, how did u connect it?? i mean u will have a little hose coming out from the TEE from the vacuum line, right? how do you connect that little hose to the tube?? let me know thanks...
MrCLoWnY
12-21-2001, 11:52 AM
Hey xbird, whats up dawg, don't worry too much about the vacuum line too much. Once you do it its really simple. ANother thing do not forget to weld the valve thing on your oil pan. YOU HAVE TO WELD IT On or it will leak.
xbird
12-21-2001, 12:28 PM
i don't think i will weld it.................
i mean........... STeve's page didn't ask me to weld it :P
and how do hell do i get ppl to weld it when my car is no running !!
i will just put some kind of chemical around the flange to avoid leaking....................
Racing Rice

You should really take your oil pan out when you drill the holes for the oil return.. If you dont youll have metal shavings in your oilpan which could be bad. Then while its out take it and have it welded.
thermal
12-21-2001, 12:44 PM
yeah x, you do plan to take out the pan right. it is better for the drain elbow to be welded, mine is not. just make sure that you do NOT make those bolt holes too big. use loctite for the nuts and bolts. apply a high temp permatex around the outside of the flange edge.......i did all that to lower the chances of leakage.......
as far as the vacuum lines......piece of cake. if u buy the gauge new, it should come with fittings and adapters. it should adapt to a barb end. the barb end will slip fit into the tubing. get some "T" fittings with barb ends from the hardware store or automotive store. peace bro;)
xbird
12-21-2001, 02:56 PM
did your oil flange ever leak????
it's pain in the ass where u got to take the oil pan out (very far for me) in the middle of ur installations..... i think i will just do whatver u did thermal, if it leaks, well bad luck, i got to takeit out and getit welded.. damn...... i hope it won't happen

BTW guys, I can install the blue box before i install the turbo, right??
let me know
thanks
MrCLoWnY
12-21-2001, 08:31 PM
yeah you can install the blue box before the turbo as long as you don't drive......
xbird
12-21-2001, 08:50 PM
so u r saying i can't use the blue box without the turbo???
then can i run the turbo without the blue box?? i mean just install the turbo, but not boosting.........
coz i am not sure ifi will have enough time to hook up the blue box after the turbo install
JB Weld all the way!!;)
seriously. That is what a couple of welding shops recommended me to do. I called about 10 shops in my area and no one would weld the flange on for me. It has something to do with the fact that the aluminum is porous with oil or something like that. I don't really understand it though.
Anyway, chris, you are going to have to take off your oil pan. And if you can't get the flange welded onto the pan, then use JB Weld. That's what I used. It's only a couple bucks and it is as hard as a rock. That shit is the shit!:P
later,
aj

i am not sure if he is stepping it hard...

i don't think he has any mods, well yes.. the INDIGLO rear emblem :P
they should have 160 HP, right?? they should be freaking fast like a SI, but ........... well... maybed he didn't really step it hard, i didn't either, i wasn't stepping it to the floor........

You have to have both the turbo and the bluebox installed or none. if you have the blue box only you'll probably blow your motor cuz your gonna run way too rich.
WIthout the blue box and just the turbo your gonna blow your motor cuz your gonna run way too lean. So either both or none.
Merry christmas by the way. ! = )
thermal
12-22-2001, 01:01 PM
the blue box should not take long. it took me about an hour and half to put it on.....u can install it before the turbo, but leave the power (to the blue box) untapped until the turbo is installed. it should only be one wire.....i cant remember which........

correct....full mark on the dipstick. i used about 3-4 quarts of the oil, i think. do not overfill. too much oil can cause seal/gasket damage (not instantly). do not worry too much about this. after the second quart of oil, wait a few minutes to check the level of oil. waiting will give the oil enuff time to settle. when it's settle, u will get a more acurate reading on the dipstick......

quarts?? how many quarts i am using???
damn... i only know Litre ! haha...
teach me teach me !!!
I believe the bible states:
3.8 quarts when you change your oil filter.
3.8 quarts x .9463 (conversion factor) = 3.59594 liters
you should put in 3.59594 liters of Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil if you are changing your oil filter as well.
hope this helps,

Finally, after all those questions.....
WELCOME TO THE CLUB>>.......
chris,
that's awesome, I didn't think that you were going to do it today. The oil leak might be from your oil return flange on the oil pan.
good luck though, and give us the details later,
peace,
aj

Almost every Greddy install has some oil burn off at first. It stops after 5 minutes or so. Do you actually see the oil or is it just smoke? Check the high pressure line where it goes into the turbo. When I installed mine I thought there was a leak too but there wasn't.
Also, not using wheel stops will cause oil leaks too. Did you get your wheel stops? hehe j/k

hahaha,
yea, I used WD-40 to get my 02 sensor out of my exhaust manifold. It was still on it when I screwed it into the downpipe and when I started the car, smoke started coming out of the engine bay. It scared the shit out of me but it was the WD-40.
shewww!!
btw, can anybody else get on superhonda.org?
I haven't been able to get on their site in about a couple days now.
sheesh.
anyway,
later guys,

And why are you trying to go to other sites? Hmmmmm? haha. Maybe that was why Matt was posting responses on Honda-tech because he couldn't get on SH. By the way, if none of you have seen this, check out this post on HT discussing the D16 and how much power it can make - http://www.honda-tech.com/zeromodify?cmd=editpost&id=899055
In my opinion, it is a common misconception that, to get real power, you need to swap your D16 for a larger engine, B18, or to the DOHC 1.6. I mean if you are going to argue that, why not say that to get real power you should have bought a domestic big block and then turbocharged it? Anyway, that post had some interesting things to say about the power that a D16 can be made to make.

I didn't checkout anything about the oil leaks, i see smoke ! yes it's smoke !
and i see oil dripping down to the downpipe which causes the smoke ! So i think something is leaking !
but donno where, maybe the TEE...
or maybe the oil pan...
i actually see some leaks before i install the turbo, maybe that is the problem, i am too tired to check it out tonigh after 11 hours of working and 3 hours sleep and only one sandwich all day long !
i will check it out tomorrow for sure ! and probably get my BOV welded tomorrow if they are open !
i will let u guys know the details tomorrow
it's probably the oil pan, i don't htink did a very good job, coz i was very tiredalread !heheh...

hey, i am sorry, i was away from my computer couldn't talk to you on AIM
hmm.. you can basically follow those instructions and install everything... after that, it will be easy, i think once you reach that, u will know what u r doing and got what to do next
also, when you look at my sig, and look at that turbo assembly, it's the bes to put in the oil return hose and that pipe, coz after you put your turbo on there, it will be hard to put that pipe and hose in....
hmm. the instructions end after you connect the oil return hose....
what you do next is connect the charge pipe and those others two pipes, remember to get somebody to weld on your BOV on the charge pipe
after connect the pipes, connect your blue box, remember to solder the wires.....
i think that's all... hmmm...
let me find Thermals's instructions, he has more instructions after, maybe it will help, i will post a link on next msg

i would suggest you to install the gauges before your installation
and also a turbo timer, install these stuff before your installation, it will save you lots of time
anyways, we (ajn, thermal, turbo97ex, mrclowny, racingrice) or other fellows will help u out !!
good luck on your project !
let us know how it goes !

Thanks alot guys! im just curious though where does the oil hose thats wrapped in thermal wrap go? And one of the hoses that were supposed to come in the kit is not here. I have the blue one, the large black one and the medium size black one. Is that gonna be a problem? sorry for all the questions i just wanna make sure everything is right.

Uhm...Im kinda confused about the charge pipe installation, isnt there a pipe that goes to the turbo and then to the filter? I feel kinda stupid (i used to think i was very technically inclined)

i would say you should read all the stuff that steve has on his website !
that wrapped hose is going into the oil pan, you need to drill a hole for that
i think steve has those instructions !
i dun think u need the blue one....
the biggest hose is for the oil return which is that wrapped one
and there is a another black hose is for connecting ur air filter to your engine..........
just make sure you know what to do BEFORE you install it !
or else u will be in trouble

Isnt that tube a little short to reach the oil pan?
xbird
02-01-2002, 11:31 PM
nope.. it will be actually too long, u will need to cut it
look at steve's picture of where he drilled his oil pan, it's very useful
u need to be careful of where to drill, too high won't be good, too low won't be good neither
so make sure u print that picture

speaking of drilling holes. where do i drill the hole in the intake piping for the sensor?
xbird
02-02-2002, 11:21 AM
i didn't drill any holes for that
i just left it hanging there

I was unscrewing the sensor to join it with the tee when i felt sumthin drippin on my shirt. It was antifreeze!!! Im positive it wasnt oil! it was green and it smelled like antifreeze. Does anyone know why that is happening? I havent done anything but bolt up the turbo and connect the charge and intake pipes.
Kryptonite
02-02-2002, 06:39 PM
its coming from the corners of my oil pan
xbird
02-02-2002, 07:26 PM
it's really hard to know where it is coming from...
you haven't touch anything that would matter the antifreeze...
sounds strange....
i am not sure.. but if u r saying it's coming from the corner of your oil pan, i think it's dripping from the front of ur engine....
check that out, and make sure where it is from....
where are you from? you from canada? do you have a block heater in your car?
if you do, maybe that's the problem
coz when you bolt on the turbo, the blcok heater will be in the way of the turbo, so when u bolt on the turbo hard, it will make that block heater leaks..
anyways, look carefully where it is leaking out....
good luck !
start a new thread if u can't find where it is leaking !
