What is the word mean

Means that it shifts without warning or notice...
like if you're doing 50mph and suddenly it shifts to 2nd gear....

if its an automatic it will shift into low gears at the wrong time. Like your car will shift from 4th to 2nd for no absolute reason. And if its doing that you need to get it fixed FAST

Yeah, basically it just means that shifting is unpredictable.
