Does it really work that well? And do u need a wet surface or does it work fine on dry pavement?

A wet surface helps the tray's slide better (and they won't burn through because of the friction) as well as saving some tread on your tires. That is ideal. But if it's really wet, you might not be able to get traction on your front end (and no traction on all 4 tires could be a bad thing). Also, there'll be less smoke involved. In general, you want a wet, smooth surface.
I would also recommend if you are going to do it on a dry surface (where they'll be alot of smoke) roll up your windows when you do it. All of the smoke comes into the cabin and really dirty's up your interior.
By the way, did you check out my tray sliding video?

ok well it was kinda weak, but the video ran out of time, I started to do crazier shit .. but we didn't manage to get that..
anyways, this is on a perfectly dry platform which sucked because after the 2nd slide, it was already biting pavement. IF the ground is wet, they will last for a good 20 minz.

1) The reverse gear is the lowest gear, so your engine RPM's will stay high. Plus it puts a ton of strain on the tranny in general. Reverse is only meant for like 5 or 10mph... not 30.
2) It's hard on your CV joints because the force of the car is making them literally want to rip out the side...
3) If you have certain tires, the reverse peel-out goes against your tread pattern, causing excess wear.
