92-95 Civic Hatchback. Find a cheap CX with some miles on it. Rip the engine out and put in a B18B. Problem solved.;)

i'm gonna go against what all the ricers want you to do, and i'm going to tell you too stay away from civics. They're great cars but it seems that every shit who wants to "touch" a car has one. Try something different, stay away from honda. They make good cars dont get me wrong but TOOO MANY people have them, and I dont know about you but I dont like driving what EVERYONE else is driving.
If you just want to blend in with all the rice in your area, pick up an older civic and toy with it. It will never be an amazing car, it will have some pick up once you drop another motor in it. But common its a civic, full stop end of story. Look into Nissan if you want jap. Pick up a 240sx, which is faster stock then a civic, rwd and you can drop a skyline motor in her later and walk all over the little kids in their toy civics.

 Good thing about Hondas though is that they are SO interchangeable. I suggest stick with a Civic, they are affordable, dependable, long lasting, & the BEST thing is, while lots of people may have the same 'basic' car, there are SO many kits available for them that you can easily make one all your own for less.
The earlier argument made can go for just about any car. You know how many Mustangs I see out there? Ad nauseum.:pukey
If you're lookin for 1 certain type of car, all cars such as that type will stick out for you. Just a rule of thumb.;)

up to 6 thou.. hmmm......
id say that you should go for a civic or a integra, theres a lot of stuff out there for them

oh sorry if we're just talking about "kits" and "lights" for your car, the 240 isnt' for you. I'm sorry I didn't realize you wanted to rice your car.
If you want a car that has good potential (we're talking motor here) look into something other then a civic, the 240sx is the first thing that came to mind because I've been looking to those while looking into an older 325i. The 240 has 155hp in the stock motor, which means it has more power stock then most of these civics have after their mods.
If you pop the hood on a 240 you realize there is tons for room for either a bigger motor (skyline) or turbo system. Or hell man if you have the money try both. But if you got the route of turbing, you're working with a 2.4L, running 10psi of boost you should be making just a little under 250hp (at the motor). Now try to do that from a little 1.6L and you're going to have to run alot more boost. Do some research on turbos, intakes and so on, you'd be surprised whats out there for the 240sx. Now that i think about it...
Just becareful off all the people that tell you to buy a civic, most of the time they themselves will be driving one and want to think they're amazing cars. check this link out 240sx (http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/used/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/2218.htm) it has some info on them and used prices you should be looking paying for them. Nissans aren't known like honda is but trust me, the difference between a civic (stock) and a 240sx(stock) is night and day.
a quote from import tuner
Nissan's 240SX/Silvia platform has long been a favorite of performance-minded drivers. A front-engine, rwd configuration combined with well-engineered driving dynamics makes the 240 a winner.

 I wouldn't consider a body kit 'rice'. An aluminum 4 foot wing maybe... but a subtle body mod. can be tasteful. Just use good judgment. ;)

i'm with mt. biker.....i went through my civic stage and quickly realized it wasn't what I wanted. Good thing it got totalled 3 months after purchase. I'm also looking at the 240SX's and believe I'll go with an S13 cause I do n't like how the roof comes all the way to the back on the S14's. I'm thinkin the S13 is a little boxier and I'll do the front end S14 conversion......but definately more better stock and just as many options as a honda.

The point of this entire thread is that there's alot of inexpensive cars that can be made fast. Find something you like and do the research to see if it will fit what you want to do with it.
Let's not turn this into a 'rice' thread....

I like the 240sx idea. Lots of options but not one on every corner.
Also look into a MKIII supra, those things are cheap with lots of potential.
A 300zxtt can be had for less than 6k now, but with high miles so you might need to save some cash for repairs.
Also try a 1st Gen eclipse/talon. Those arent too bad either;)

there's a lot more accords than there are civics, in my area.
i don't see much 7th gen civics around yet, which is a good thing...
but i'm sure it'll flood the streets like the previous models in a couple of years...

How much would it cost to put an b18 gsr motor an a turbo an a good exauast system an a air intake an intercool plus pulleys an 2 10in subs with manual tranny
About how fast would i run in a 92-97 civic hatchback.
0-60
quarter mile
would i beat a mustang? lol
I will check into the 240sx too
What would it take to make a 240sx a 13 sec in 1/4 mile
Addict
04-08-2003, 09:05 AM
B18C1 is about $4000 on a good day.
Turbo is about $3200 custom.
Subs I have no idea.
And yes you could beat some stangs.

camber kit? no.. its a drifting car. bad camber=good. perfect camber isnt the answer wehn you have a track car that rarly if ever goes on the road or does anything besides road course/drifting.
that sticker? heh... ALOT. that company builds absolutly awsome cars. i would give my car up so fast for one of theirs. see the bride seats in the front view? yes... very nice.

oh and for a first car, get something cheap you dont mind making mistakes on, cause no matter what this car will not turn out the way you want it to be in 2 years. your going to cut corners and try to do things the cheap way thinking it looks good, when it really looks like ass. its just something that 95% of all kids who think they can mod their first car do.

well dude....get what ya want. You gotta remember that opinions are like @ssholes and that everyone has one. I have a 7th gen civic (which yes I know is out of your price range) and I absolutely love my car....and I have NOTHING done to it. You gotta remember that you're buying you first car...it doesn't have to be the most spectacular thing in the world. No matter what you get and what you do to it, I can pretty much tell you that 10 yrs from now you're gonna look back at what you did to that car and think WTF was i thinking!?! So, I say do your homework on potential cars that you like the looks of and see if you can find any of those in your price range. Just don't let yourself get screwed over when finally buying one!:)

actually if you do a strawberry conversion to the the coupe it would be ridiculously tight(that is swapping the jdm s15 front with does not have the pop up lights) also swapping the non pop up s13 front end from japan onto a coupe looks sick
i would go with a 240 since you are still young and have time. for the first couple of years you learn to drive the car and mod the body. set everything up and save money for the future for an sr20 swap. set your car up to be clean and sleek, with the abilityto throw down high 200 hp. the det can hold up to 600hp on stock internals if you wish but that power is really not useful. if you are looking at a 240, you need to realize that it is not a drag car, but a race car, there is a difference. the chasis is at home going 150 on a highway. the stock motor is not made for turbo so don't bother thinking about it, it's a waste of money.

FIRST OFF....
I wasn't bashing sh!t... it was I (IN) M (MY) O (OPINION) and it DOES contribute something... it's an opinion which he was asking for.
I'm 16 an I want to get a car... I was wondering what I should get
I DON'T think he should get a 240 coupe... it's my opinion.
secondly...
I was talking about 240 coupes not civic's... so all you sensitive ladies with the coupes (like me) can pull your panties out of your crack.
Lastly...
I would TOTALLY recomend the jdm front-end conversion hell I'd suggest importing an awd turbo one and swapping ALL the parts on to the american chassis. (might get a little harry when you got to inspection and your car shouldn't be awd... but hey.)
my OPINION has not changed 240 coupes aren't even a 10th as attractive to ME as the hatches are...

all of you are recommending what you want for your next project. this is the kids FIRST car. think of what he NEEDS. a ride. sure something he can work on is nice, but for a first car, im glad i got something safe (well... considering what happened... T-boned) over something that was low to the ground fast and stole all my money(current car). wait until you no longer want to work your ass off anymore just to dump money in to the car, wait until you wana go on vacation with your friends that saved up money, but you don thave any cause it went to your car, im not sugesting any one car or another, because well... its a biased opinion based on my past and current experiences. i feel i waisted money. and really wish i had some of it now to be enjoying myself, because cars grow old... fun memories spent with freinds only get better.
