I was at the local dodge dealership, I am friends with the owner, and someone came in and bought a SRT-4 neon for $26,000 and some change. I guess that the car is going to be a graduation present for some High School kid. Seriously, I know that the SRT-4 is fast and everything, but it is still a neon, I drove that car before, so I know it is fast, but it is still a neon. I would have bought something else for that price, but that is just me. Just courious if you guys and grils would pay $26K for a neon?

Id use the 26k to put a payment on a 350z or g35c... if I had no more than 26k to spend I'd try to get an RX-8 or the base 350...

How in the world do you make a neon worth $26K? I can't think of enough crap to add to one to make it worth $20K, much less $26K.

I think they look good.... not all neon's but the rt4 is nasty looking.
and to answer the original question... I would NEVER buy a new car... it's a waste of money... you pay a premium for something that basically loses half of it's value the minute you pick it up.
F all that... get a 2 thousand dollar used car and put 23k into it..

Id take about $10K of it and buy something like a used civic or someother cheap econobox like it. Then I'd take $8500 and buy a 2003 Honda CBR600RR.. Then I'd take the rest and go on a cruise!
Woohoo!!!
Someone gonna give me about $26K please?!?!

I am not really a fan of the TSX (http://www.acura.com/promo/tsx/minisite/tsx_photos.asp)... Then again, I don't like too many Acura's these days.
And it's funny how people have just been reading the Topic, and not the posts. They are like "You should get _____" when he was really asking something like 'would you spend $26k on a Neon"
And if my father was going to get me a graduation present and spend $26k (in reality, he got me a damn palm pilot.. that I use as a coaster). I would want a used (like a 2001) BMW 330Ci... chicks lean towards BMW's, not Neons :x

Ya I wouldn't spend te money but If I won one I'd.... OK never mind I'd sell it before it showed up... nice and all but I wouldn't drive it.
As faras the budget Like I said never buy new... get something used and build it up.
As far as the tsx goes...the side shot looks llike a BMW 7 series (not a good thing imo) the concept scetch looks like a friggin pontiac drawing.
And overall I'm with DD... acura's are ugly and have been for years the integra was the last OK looking acura and now it's the RSX which CAN be OK looking but I don't like them.

I HATE german cars... my dad has had porsche's and they're nice and all but upto at least 92-93 they ALL have the worst clutch feel in the world... I can't stand it... you can drive around it but it sucks.. I would NEVER dump that much money into a car that feels like that...
And what german car besides a VW beetle are you gunna get for 25k?

exactly...
they are nice but IMHO over priced.. domestic cars are where its at if you wanna go fast...
do 25k into a bmw including car price
now do the same formula with a late 80's mustang...
the mustang will RAPE the bmw OVER AND OVER again

its hard to say, maybe an RSX Type S or a Prelude then do about 10k in mods, or a 1998 Teg Type R with A/C then do some mods to that

Biker's right, BMW's where it's at!

Sure in a straight line, toss some turns in there though and watch what happens. Besides all the girlies will still go for the guy in the BMW :P

BMW craftsmanship is superb. Its such a nice solid car. Ive never driven a manual BMW, but an automatic 328i with the sport package is sweet! Great power, smooth precise handling.

stop being a f&cking idiot, there is an aftermarket for mustangs too. if it werent for my shocks that are drag only, id love to go toe to toe with ANYTHING you got on the "twisties" some nice coilovers and id pull upwards of 1g i bet.....
there is actually MORE of an aftermarket for stang suspension than probably most of your hondas and whatnot, chalk it up to age and R+D.
freaking noobs.
ever see hondas with tubular suspension components? i see mustangs all the time with tubular k-members, hell i can go out ot my garage and see one.

in answer to the question for 26K i would have a 347 stroked 5.0 with cartech t-66 single turbo running 15psi inward threw afr 185 cc heads and mid 500 lift cam and trickflow intake, fuel spark curves controller by twEECer, 42 lb injectors with tuning, a little more suspension, and into deep 8's, still street legal ;)
with over 10K to blow on a downpayment for a new cobra for my everyday car:)

Have you ever been on a cruise? You'd be surprised how much crap you buy. Well, I was surprised how much damn money I spent, anyway.

My aunts and uncles go on cruises every few months... I understand that there is a ton of other stuff to waste your money on when you go on one.. But they arent things you have to do, thats a spend it if youve got it type of thing. ;)

i've seen them run 14.1's stock. for 26k i dont see that as that bad, expecialy since ive herd they handle wuite well. i dont know what else compaire, maybe a WRX, but they arnt that fast stock. im sorry, i utsa hate neons, but i have alot of respect for these. times change, the 60's handling of muscle cars is gone, the rarity of a high reving low displacment import is gone, if you want a import, make sure you dont think your getting a suppirior machine, and not just the name of an import. ive seen too many problems with imports lately(mechanical, etc) to honestly believe the reliability and suprime handling i keep hereing about. sure a rx7 handles great, and sure a civic gets great gas milage, and well... supras can have insane power, and they are all imports, but domestics are right on their toes. dollar for dollar you cannot beat a muscle car. they have been around too long and like ford50forlife said, theres been so much R&D that they have all the parts. for my next car i am completly open minded. i do not have any particular car in mind or brand (except honda is out... i own one of the best production fwd 4cyl made imo and well... im not THAT impressed comparied to what i could have for the same money) i do not hate hondas, they do have their place, and they can be made to do whatever you want, but why not figure out what you want to do with the car, then buy one designed for that, then work from there. i want something that is fun to drive, and comfortable. has a bit of power when i hit the gas, and im not looking like every other person on the road. i still respect my car, and it is a very nice machine, but after 2 years.... i dunno, the ambition to dump more money into it is gone

id get a neon for sure.... boltons have netted them 12's already despite shitty launches, and there is already one in the 9's @ 155 thats right 9's with a t-72 i forget the link but its sponsered by PHATRIDEZ er sumthing and is on stock block, stock crank, stock ported head, stock intake, and stock parts of valvetrain too, very impressive, yes how times change

actualy belive it or not.. in autox events it is not uncommon for prepped mustangs/comaro/corvettes do do very well you can through sway bars, strutbars, shock/strut packages at ANY car and make it handle well.. look at the econobox civic for example.. point being MOST people with domestics are straight line performance people, BUT if you do a search on autox domestics/mustangs you will be surprised to find they CAN be just as good..
