How do I adjust the headlights in my car one is pointing up and the other is pointing straight?

theres a level built into the light housing...there are gears in there that you can turn to adjust it (check your manual for the instructions)

but you know they are supposed to be slightly different than each other...the driver side is actually supposed to be angled farther down than passenger so people on the opposite side of the road dont get blinded; passenger slightly higher to see things that could be dangerous that are on the shoulder (person, animal, etc)

really? I never knew that, I thought they were supposed to be striaght.

I adjust my headlights by a big long screw. you have to count the threads and it really sucks.

Well, if you read these other replies than you know already that headlights are not supposed to be pointed evenly. Right headlight beam should be pointed slightly higher than the left one. Your owner's manual should have specific instructions on how to do it, if you suspect that your lights are really out of whack.

Just remember that it is easy to move these little gears behind the headlights, but to adjust them properly--that's another story. I would leave it up to a professional/dealership or somebody who has a machine to adjust it. The car has to be on absolutely even surface, 25 feet from the wall, etc.

You could easily make it much worse (blinding upcoming traffic and stuff) if you don't know how to adjust them according to state law.
