You're going to have to tell us exactly what you have in order for us to suggest upgrades :)
If its too old, you'll have to just start from scratch.

wow. thats a very open ended question that could take quite a while to answer.
would you mind being a bit more specific? maybe post the specs of your current rig? what your uses are and what items you are interested in, if any.

If its a presario, you can add more ram and maybe upgrade the proc a little bit, but its not worth it.
If you'd tell us what you're willing to spend, we could get you an AMD athlon system for a great price I'm sure.

Hmm... $150. Well, you can't get much. Maybe buy yourself a stick of RAM if it doesn't already have 256. I'd save it until you can get something better (and build it yourself!).
512 Megs of SDRAM should do you fine. If your concern is videogames, then system RAM and Graphics Card RAM are more important than processor speed. ATI all the way, btw.

Well, depending on your computing style, that may or may not be enough to do what you want.
Are you a gamer? or are you mainly the word processing/e-mail/internet type?
If you want to try to do something here, more RAM, however, I would suggest saving the cash for a new machine down the road.
