Some states have both a front and rear license plate... I don't know about Washington, but in Florida, you only need a rear plate.

Right, only some states. Here in California it is required. I cant tell you how many times I have gotten a ticket for not having a front license plate. At least 7 times...each time I have to put back on the plate, take it to an inspection station, give them 10 bucks, they write it off and I am done. I will continue to pay 10 dollars because I dont like have a front plate. 2 reasons the CHP officer told me I need it on. One, officers aparently get thier speed readings off of your front plate (when using radar gun), and 2 for controlled intersections (ones with cameras). Seems that is only takes a snap shot of your front plate. I believe that because I have gotten flashed at least 5 times and I have recieved nothing in the mail...haha.

Yeah, I've been pulled over a couple of times for not having a front plate. I believe the law is the same in Washington.

Yeah, you're right about both reasons. We don't have red light cams in my city, but they do have them around Oregon.

yea i know about the whole thing in cali, but i never got a ticket for it yet. i keep mine on the passenger side in the front window, but yea, it's still illegal in cali not to have it on the bumper. my friend got a ticket before for it too.

Front plates are also required in NJ and NY. I can't remember where else off hand.

You're not supposed to hit a car.

no sh|t sherlock, and it wasnt me that was hittin, it was the person backin into me which happened to me be my ****in bass player in my old band, but the bumper suppose to take a 5mph beating or it aint a bumper, and them brackets are in the way. so if someone hit my bumper now, they wont make the license plate fall off and scratch sh|t

Here in vermont it is required to have one on the front bumper, but cops cant stop u for not having one. they have to stop u for something else and then they will ticket u for not having one. When i got into a fender bender like 2 years ago, the bracket that holds it on the front bumper broke and so i cant attach it back onto the bumper. :), so that's my excuse to the cops if they stop me and ticket me for one.
