View Full Version : F*** TOKICO (and a new setup poll)

You all remember when I got my tokico illumina R's right? It was only 3-4 months ago.
Well...today the front passenger blew... I had them set on 3.5 setting so it wasnt too soft and I kept the spring height at 1.5" drop...so neither was too much for a shock like that to handle...however...it blew
Since tokico offeres no warranty on this particular shock (because its competition (actually designed for auto-x)) I'm screwed. I called today and complained (I had called earlier as well to complain about the adjusting nuts that rusted, but again no help). They simply said "No warranty".
Honestly, if this shock is truely designed for auto-x, wouldnt it be a hell of a lot more stable for normal street driving? I dont even drive everyday, more like 3 times per week on decent roads.
I REALLY ADVISE EVERYONE NOT TO BUY THESE PIECES OF CRAP. ANY shock that only lasts 3-4 months isnt worth ANYONE'S time or money.
So now I gotta get new shocks and new springs...I'm thinking Koni Reds and either Tein s-tech, Eibach pro-kit, or some kind of HR springs...what do you people think? (Answer in the poll)
Anyone use the Koni Reds? Tell me what you guys are using (no im not getting ground conrols and I dont think I need the adjustability of the yellows)

well I found 2 groupbuys that total out to be less than $650
1 is for 4 Koni Yellow
1 is for H&R sports (not the oe sports)
for around a 2" drop
I think this is gonna be a really good setup and you cant deny the price...what do you all say?

$650 for the springs and struts? That's great! Make sure that all 4 are externally adjustable. Some sites sell just the front 2 externally adjustable.

Get Konis, I would suggest yellows.. But if you dont have the money then go with the Reds.. As for springs, my Eibach Pro-Kits are nice..
I run Koni Yellows and Pro-Kits, I really like this setup.

i dont have my stocks anymore
my stocks were saggy and mushy when i bought the car. they guy that had it before me did a lot of traveling to the boonies and i guess it wore the stocks and springs too much...so I bought the tokicos...now im buying something else...

H&R sport = 1.5" drop
koni yellow can give you about 1" more drop. 2.5" drop if you want it.
i need to pick up some yellows for my hatch.....

If you want a STABLE suspension that will last forever and no worries... but is not adjustable and doesn't lower your car much...
DEFINATLY go with Eibach Pro-Kit.... I had those in my sentra for over 100k mi's and they were the sHi0t.
Seriously the most impressive spring I've EVER ridin on.
I had kyb struts with it they were great too but I here about people blowing them I never did though and I used to BEAT that car like a red headed step child.
everything is non-adjustable so it just handles great... you can get your car aligned to STOCK specs without it coming out all R-tarded.
If you want simple reliable and the best spring go eiback PRO KIT.
Not the sportlines a friend of mine got those and they sucked.

Has anyone ever heard of Gabriel shocks? My bro said he could hook me up with a deal on some of those for my civic, but I've never even heard of them. He said he had some on his Mustang GT and they were really good. What do you guys/gals think?
