Sounds like a good car. its got lots of potential, add exhaust and intake, a turbo kit, and some other good mods, and you'll have a kick ass car. it'll be great to see the expresion on somones face when you tell them they and they're pimped wrx jsut got beat by a 1.3 liter engine, haha.

Its one of those great mazda rotary engines too

hey- i meant to post something abt this the other night... laziness doesnt pay off.. anyways im a bit dissapointed with only 250hp and 159tq... granted it is light i'd still like to see more power... Im afraid it will be overshadowed by the 350z, g35c, evo8 and wrx sti...

250 hp from a 1.3 liter, 3 piston engine....isn't that a lot for such a small engine? correct me if i'm wrong.

the technology is great and all... but the stlying isnt there... i saw it close up at the autoshow..as well as some other mazda sports car that is only made for japan... and that one made the RX8 look like shit from a styling point of view

yeah 250hp from 1.3liter is great, but even if you got 1000hp/liter and it only had .001 liter would you still say thats a lot of power?

no it's not a 3 piston engine. it has 3 rotors. Read this a bit and confusn might go away. i'm still not clear how that engine works

The RX8 is beautiful. Sure if you put it next to a 360 Modena it won't look quite as stylish, but it's still a badass ride in its own respect. I like it more after seeing it in person.

Comparing power/displacement of rotary engines to that of normal ones is not a fair comparison, they're totally different.

Yup, and comparing peak tq / hp between different engine cycles is bogus too - look at the curves. Better yet, go drive an rx8 or rx7. The power feels totally smooth; you'll hit 6, 7, 8krpm and not even notice. A very different engine.

it's not a 3 rotor yet... I believe it's 2... there are three points on each rotor... these act as the piston... as the triangle (rotor) spins around it compresses air just like a piston does only it does so with out a violent up and down motion.. it just spins. at any given point one of the 3 points is always entering the firing section of the engine another is pulling in A/F mix. and the other is compressing A/F mix.

They will be turbo charging these cars next year and introducing a 3 rotor after that if it's a succesfull line.

A friend of mine who's big into rotory engines says hold off till at least the second or third year of release.

oh and on a side note the design of the engine make for a REDICULOUSLY low center of gravity making almost any car with a rotory a handling beast.

my buddies turbo ii handles better than any car I've ever been in including porsche, corvette, nsx, ferrari.
