Ok..let me get this straight here..i know this question was probably asked before but..

Can you race with an auto tranny?

If not then i will quit upgrading my car.
If yes then what is the best way to race with an auto?

Sorry if I asked such stupid question.
Thank You

Hmm.. Thats a hard question. I guess you CAN race with an auto, auto supras (TT) hit 14 sec 1/4 miles. But I guess your accord isnt a supra.

You can go to www.levelten.com they build specialized trannies, and you should be able to find something there.

Hey im an auto racer hehe. I run mid 16s hehe. If you like your car just keep modding it and wait till the tranny breaks. It will be like 1200 to replace it or you can spend 1200-1500 for a 5spd swap. I got quoted 1200 for my swap. Just waitin on the thing to break. slipping going nto 4th shouldnt be too long.

Just shift with your foot. Listen to the gears as you would with a stick. When you hear the gear top out, lift your foot very slightly off the pedal until you hear it shift then punch the pedal again, through all the gears. You CAN shift an auto like a stick, it just takes practice and a good ear.

ehh that method doesnt seem to work any better than letting the car shift on its on. In my accord it runs to the redline then drops to like 3500rpms. To be honest with an auto there is no one trick thats going to make you run faster and be safe.

Shift with your foot heh? What about the D4-D3-2-1 crap?
Hehe..when i want a little boost..I just shift from D4 down to D3..that would give me a little boost..also i've noticed the D3 rev faster than the D4...i mean...on D4...it take forever to get to 60 mph..but when i put it in D3...I could feel the difference. Well I dunno..and also I mostly drive on D3..I don't know if that will kill the engine or transmission or whatever. Any comment?

Whenever i race I put it in d3 and then just stomp the gas when its time to go. In my experiance brake torquing, manually shifting gears doesnt make it any quicker. My quickest time is just by hitting the gas in d3. Oh im on my second tranny It died because I brake torqued too much.

Yeah, the manual shift on an auto just slows you down, My cousin's friend races auto and he got sponsored. Don't ask me how. But i just go in d4 and flow my foot with the odo. and i get it going pretty good.

i race mine acutually its just the way i drive but i normally drive with it in d4 or d3 in town and just floor it when needed but there is no replacement for being able to shift ur gears when and where u want to. i miss 5speeds

i don't know but on my car the gas pedal trick works. if not you can have a custom modulefrom level10 and you can shift it just like a manual tranny

Get a good torque converter and upgrade your final drive gear... then smoke manuals all day long.

Well, I testing with D3 on the street. D3 is faster than D4. But it's going to break the engine. :( Then I put shift back to D4.

A few, and I mean FEW cars actually come faster in the automatic variety. The late '90s Z28 Camero is the only car that I can think of off the top of my head.
In my opinion, an automatic will never be as fast as the manual, given a good driver for both cases. From 0-60 or the standing quarter mile, sure, the times will be close, but for actual street, there's no contest. In a rolling start, autox, anything that doesn't involve starting from a standstill, the manual car will always come out the victor. Downshifting, double clutching (God I sound like a TFATF *** now), and leaning out the clutch are attributes that the manual has that an automatic could never get close to.

That said, Mercedes is coming out with a 7 (yes, I said 7) speed automatic tranny that is supposed to be a technological marvel... but I hate the tiptronic auto's anyways.
