So I just thought that I would share this with everyone. For those of you that don't know, in the winter I drive a Dodge Neon because I have to put my Accord away due to all the snow and crap. Last night at about 2:30 I'm driving with 2 friends and I nail this HUGE pothole. So I pull over into the breakdown lane but a little bit more over on the grass because I was scared someone was going to hit me. I jacked up the car, loosened the lugs and then went to get the spare. Which after of about 10 minutes of trying to get it out, I realized that it wouldn't come out. There was all rust and whatnot. A state trooper came and said that I had 24 hours to leave it there. Went to take care of everything this morning. Come to find out, someone smashed into it and totaled it. This guy had a Neon too. Luckily he was not hurt at all. I have the accident info summary and he was at fault...Vehicle 1 was parked safely on I84 EB in Waterbury when he struck the parked. Heavy damage to both vehicles. No injuries...So, I had to sneak into the lot where my car is because the place is closed. The entire ass end of the car is buckled up. The bumper looks as though it's going into the muffler. All I have to say is thank God we weren't in that car. This guy was going fast. All of this came as a bit of a shock. I just thought I was going to change a tire. Not find the car M.I.A and discover it's been totaled.

I say good riddance to the peon! the trans was going out on it though, right? Assuming he was insured, you should be getting a good chunk of cash! Mod money! too bad winter isnt over though, this means that money will prolly go to another low end winter beater. oh well.
glad you werent in the car though!

So was it the Accord or the neon that got hit. Either way, glad to hear that you werent in the car. Maybe you can make some $$ of the deal.. Of Course, then youd just have to buy a new beater anyway.:o

That sucks. Or well it could be a good thing. That Neon wasn't meant for this world.
Why do you garage the Accord?

Hey man...strange things happen when you drive crap...errr...Neons. I had to go out earlier tonight and pick up a female friend who drives a Neon because she lost control on K-10 in the snow we got here. She was driving 30mph. Piece of shit Neons.

Glad to hear you are ok, and that nobody got hurt. Good thing that wasnt your accord that got hit.

Thank you everyone for your "sympathy" or so to speak. Ok...I'm going to try and answer the questions...The Neon came from an auction. The book value of the car is significantly more than what was paid for it at the auction. The amount of damage is going to be more than the book value of the car. I don't have any pics of the totaled Neon but I'm going to be taking some when I can get back to it to get all my stuff out of the trunk. I have to garage the Accord because at the side skirts of my kit, it's about 2 inches off the ground and at the front bumper about 2 and 3/4 in. I can't drive it in the winter because all the sand and whatnot would tear up my car badly.
"Hey man...strange things happen when you drive crap..." <how come people think I'm a man? :D
I'm not sure what I'll be getting for another ride. I would love to get another Honda or maybe an Ac or something. Nothing fancy but something that I could mildly modify but still drive in the winter.
Anyone have any suggestions as to how I remove my stuff from a trunk that's totally smashed in and buckled up? Crowbar time.

I know that it's a Neon and everything but I felt realy bad for it when I saw it. Poor little car. I had some cool stickers on that thing too. A big JEG'S sticker. An Edelbrock sticker. And the best...a Grand Theft Auto Vice City sticker on the back windshield. I was just starting to decorate the car.

Also I would just like to say that I am driving a rental. I'm driving a 00 Chevy Metro. Not that the Neon was all that better but it was. I feel like I am driving a golf/moon cart.

NOT! Is right. I think some crack head had it before me. The ashtray is filled with all these burnt matches. But there's no ashes at all. It's like this dude just sat there and burnt match after match until the ashtray was filled.

aw thats no fun! time to break out some trays and do dry donuts!
you could use a cutting torch or something and get into the trunk. or maybe just tear out the back seats and get it that way. be careful of the gas tank though.
you know whats real funny though. whenever a car gets totalled my mind process is this:
1. is the person okay?
2. is the other person okay?
3. was it insured?
4. is it totalled?
5. what can be salvaged off of it?
the answer to number 5 is NOTHING. I cannot think of any redeeming component that can be stripped from a neon. thats sad!
oh well, looks like the Type Arrgh is dead. Time for Type Arrgh II. Maybe an oldass Crx, or civic. No fourth gens please, you'll make me feel bad.
I dont know why everyone thinks your a guy. maybe you should write "I'm a girl!" in your sig.

The rental car kind of scares me. In the sense that if I take it over 65/70, I really wonder if the car is going to blow up. I think it's a 2 cyl. Yeah, the other guy is ok. Aside from the ass beating he almost got. On the accident info summary, I believe he gave the trooper the wrong policy #. When my dad called the insurance co. they said that the policy # was under his wife's name and was no longer valid. Meaning this clown wasn't even insured under the # he gave the trooper. That wasn't too smart. We have his address. But anyway, come to find out this guy just got his own policy in his name FRI. The day prior to him totaling my car. Hey, the Neon actually just got a brand new radiator last weekend. Anyway, the insurance co. officially determined yesterday that it is totaled.
blind34_1
02-25-2003, 09:13 AM
take the radiator then. maybe somebody will need one. take the stereo too if its worth taking. Looks like another junkyard bound neon. There are so many at my junkyard I wonder if its solely because the neon is a bad car or if its just the people driving them. Although you dont see many malibu's at junkyards....
thats pretty funny he didnt even give the right policy number. he's got other problems now! youve got his address; go rough him up a bit!
You should just have the neon towed to his house and parked in his yard when he's not home. its his trophy!

what an ass... but just be thankful it wasnt the accord... you might be able to find a corolla for your next winter car... they suck quite badly though i know from experience
msvtec14
02-25-2003, 09:56 AM
So, I guess the Neon is getting towed to it's final place today and it will be destroyed or whatever it is they do. I'm not going to lie but I'm a little bummed. That little car was a trooper through this winter. The other guy had a Neon too and his car is also totaled. This dude live is the ghetto so if I just left the car on his front lawn, I think it would be a blessing. His kids would probably turn it into a fort or something.

LOL those were the days... man it woulda been cool to have a fort made out of a car instead of bedsheets, pillows, and chairs

all sorts of sharp metal edges to get tetanus on! yay!
it would've been better if the guy had "tricked" his peon. then you could say the Type Arrgh was destroyed by another Type Arrgh! rice is magnetic!
my g/f is trying to sell her 85 camry rustbucket. nah, nevermind. it wouldn't make it out of the city.

One of my friends got all shitfaced and she passed out on the futon in my room and we made quite the fort around her. And when she woke up still somewhat drunk, she thought that she was in an igloo because of the white sheet but she was all sweating and stuff because it had gotten so hot in there.
That's funny that you say that about the other neon Blind because today my friend and I were trying to figure out how he crashed into it and we came up with that he saw it and was trying to tail and be all badass with his Neon then OOOOPS, it was parked. He also had some minor injury on his hand but I really think it's a burn from the crack pipe homeboy was trying to light. Seriously, I'm still in a complete state of wonder in regard to how this jackass hit my car. It was totally out of the way.

maybe homeboy was drunk.. or high... but what mighta happened is that the guy fell asleep at the wheel and drifted off the road, and into your car

Ok. So they physically totaled the car yesterday. I bummed. What does that entail? What, do they crush it up or something?
blind34_1
02-27-2003, 10:57 AM
I imagine thats what they do. I think it only goes to a junkyard if there are enough parts undamaged that its worth keeping around. I think they put it in a crusher, flatten it out, load it on a truck and haul to a scrap metal dealer. At least thats what I've seen down in our junkyard part of town.

That's sad. Poor little car. This is all because of a flat tire.

Yes, if they physically total it then they crush it. I've got a friend who's sent 3 SVO Mustangs to the crusher...I think I died inside a little more with each one.

Bad luck...not really. These guys (brothers) drive the shit out of the cars. SVOs are setup to handle but one of them decided it could take a fairly sharp bend in a residential at about 65mph. It probably would have were it not for his cheap ass tires. Another slide sideways into a transformer at school after trying to powerslide the car to show off. The third car actually wasn't their fault. The younger brother got T-boned by a guy who wasn't paying attention to a red light and speeding. The two dipshits are just lucky to be alive. The younger also had a 4th SVO that wrecked while driving on a country road (the wheel caught the side of the road which had no curb....just a 3-4 in drop to some grass) but he wasn't being stupid...I was in the car. It was totaled by the insurance company but he sold it for $2K to a body shop tech who fixed it up. So I'll say 3 1/2.

I've been driving for almost 5 years now. Including my Accord, I've had 6 cars.
1. Chevy Cavalier(94). My first car. I wrapped around a tree 9 days after I got it. And that was 12 days after I had gotten my license.
2. Camaro(90). This car was my Dad's and he handed it down to me after I totaled the above mentioned car. This car was taken away from me about 7 months after I started driving it.
3. Geo Storm(92). I hated this car. This is what I had to get after the Camaro. At one point, I stopped putting the necessary fluids in it. Eventually, it went up in flames while I was driving it. I lost power steering and took out about 10 construction cones.
4. Toyota pickup with a wooden flatbed (87). This truck was awesome. On the wooden flatbed, it had TEAM SKOAL painted on the back and El Guapo painted on the brushguard. The engine actually just went in it. Which is why I bought the Neon.
5. Neon (95) Clearly, I don't have to tell you what happened.
6.Honda Accord (97). I've had it since 99. I bought it after I blew up the Storm. This is my baby. I miss it a lot. I'll be taking it out soon. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to change the guages because I got some crappy instructions.
