Help me buy a new Honda.

Looking around $5,000-7,000

suggestions?

would like an accord, civic, or prelude probably 95 or newer.

i have no idea about the newer cars.. what they have or don't have. definately no DX models. but in the newer cars whats the diff between the lx and the ex? are any of the specific models/years problem plagued?

My honda (1990 Accord EX) is falling apart. my goal is to have enough saved up by october for a down payment (bout 1,000-2,000) and outrageous oklahoma used car tag and taxes (dunno how much quite yet).

What about Acura? You could get a 94-96 GSR for that price I bet or a Legend. Those are nice. if it's Honda...I'd say Prelude or Accord.

you could find a decent mileage 94 or 95 prelude SI for 5-6k. they are very nice cars. good interior, comfortable, quick, handle good.

had totally forgotten about acuras.

whats the difference in all the integra models? i am clueless about them.

legend would probably be too expensive and larger than i really want.

theres the rs gs and ls with the b18a engine, then the gsr has a b18c1 and the type-r(out of your range, but saying for the hell of it) has the b18c5. the gsr has the most options.

I'd definitely go witha 94-96 gsr...you can get a really good gsr wit pretty low miles for around 5-7g's...

well i wont be doing any modification unless i win the lottery or something.

in my auto trader i'm seeing 95 GSR's at 9000 and 95 LS's at 7500. :(

i don't really want to go older than 94.. cause my car isn't much older than that.

true.

i bought mine about 4 years ago. went for 3 years without doing any other major service besides master cylinder replaced. decided it was time to get a tune up and timing belt changed and all that... and right after all that was done i've had nothing but problems.

the interior lights don't work, never have.
the engine loses power mid-acceleration and bogs down and unless i let off it will backfire.. until the check engine light comes on then its fine. its like flipping a switch. very strange. mechanic can't figure it out.
the brakes are starting to rub the rotors.. which i need to get fixed asap.
got a couple oil leaks...
the roof paint is oxidizing badly... (which only started about 6 months ago)
its got some damage on the rear from the previous owner.. its mainly cosmetic but i hate it being there.
the electric system is messed up badly. i can't connect the light to my spoiler or turn on my wipers without blowing a fuse controlling the interior lights, intermittent wipers, and a half dozen other things.
when its cold the computer doesn't realize its in park and won't give me my key for anywhere between 30 seconds and 15 minutes until it lights up the box around the P.

all in all i'm looking at around 1,000 to 2,000 to fix this car.

i think its just time to scrap it.

i'd much rather put that money into a new car. i figure i could get about 1500-2500 out of my car (with brakes fixed)... blue book low value is 3000.

it seems that if i want an acura i'll hafta go back to 93-94 to be able to afford them.

if you don't plan on modifying it much i'd get a 94+ gsr, or a 92+ prelude w/ h22 (i don't know the model w/ that engine). those are probably the faster cars stock

Those GSRs or a 4th gen VTEC lude are out of his price range.

Honestly Chris (maxvla), are you a speed freak or do you just want a decent car? A 95 Accord would be a great car. You could find an EX with leather, etc. hopefully around $7k.

Okay, Honestly.. Your going to get the newest car for the money out of a civic since they are cheaper to start with. You can find a decent lower mileage (97 and newer) civic for around $7,000. Youll have a hard time trying to find a newer accord of prelude that doesnt have almost 100K miles for $7,000.

Check out autotrader.com they are all over.

I got my GS-R from a private seller for 6,000 and it only had 81,562 miles on it!! Excellent condition, interior rocks, rims, header, exhaust, intake, wings west kit, new paint job (not cheap one). I got it for a steal! Most used dealers will try to rape you on these cars. Before I got mine I looked around at dealers and they were asking for 8-9 g's and a lot of the cars had more milage that what I ended up with for a lot less. CHibby!

lol:D My friend has the same car and the same problem. We will sit in the parking lot of a mall or whatever place we are at and wait for the car to give us the key back...Sucks.

well i've checked at the bank and have figured i could afford up to 9,000 which puts me around 150-180 a month payments (36 months). as always cheaper is better.. i'd like to stay 8,000 or less.

this opens up some other options.

my friend just got a 2001 civic ex and has an AEM and coilovers.. its pretty quick for how stock it is. that kinda power would be sufficient for me. how much power do those have?

what cars in the 5-8,000 range have similar power. if getting a civic i DEFINATELY want a 6th gen.. so 96 or newer.

i would like a car thats quick.. not necessarily fast. i won't be going to the drag strip any time soon. i'm leaning towards an ex civic since i can get a newer car for the money, however i love the size of my accord.. which has me thinking accord. preludes... well they are certainly the fastest of the 3 but i don't think i'll make the best use of it. i'll hafta go out to an used acura dealer and check out the cars so i can get a better grip on them. i figure an integra is fine... are there other models besides the teg and legend from 94-97ish?

If you liked the power of the 2k1 civic, and Accord EX would be plenty powerful for you. They run similar times.

Maxvla.. Go test drive some 6th gen civics. Preferably the EXs, the gearing is better and they feel considerably more powerful then the non-VTEC versions. You can usually pick these up within your price range with lower miles.

Like I said before, checkout autotrader.com for cars in your area that fit your price range, test drive them and pick the one you like best. Thats the best way to do it. :yes:

as far as the autotrader thats what i've been looking at. i want a stick for my next car my current is auto. i'm not real proficient at stick so i'd hafta have my friend test drive it. i learned stick but bought a auto cause it was a great deal. just need to get the rust off mah skillz. :bandit:
