My engine is so dirty, i was wondering what the best way to clean it would be.

high presure water and soap, i wash it once a month at those drive in- selfwash places. Works great for me :)

so just like just spray it down just like i do the outside of my car?

NO. Cover your electronics, distributor, etc. before you wash it. Use a degreaser and they spray it clean.
