FedEX vs UPS vs Other.. *need advice on shipping US to Canada*

Hey fellas!

Lets say I was to ship some engine components from a Calfornia address (residence..) to my house (in MTL)..

apx value (2 parcels in all)
1- 250$ USD
2- 350$ USD

All were purchased from a US website and were previously shipped to the Cali address.

Whats the best (least expensive, but legit) way to have it shipped? Which carrier? Anything to watch out for? Any methods to I can use to save on taxes/brokerade and whatever else (again legit..)

Personally, UPS(USA) has put me thru hell in the past.. I have had several experiences that demonstrates they're stunning incompetence..



Any help would be appreciated..

PS. for those who really know about this stuff, whats the best way to import a 6000$ USD (six thousand dollar) engine component, same conditions as above.. :)

I really like UPS but thats because they drop off whether someone is home or not...FedEx doesnt...in your case fedex might be the best but will most likely cost more than UPS (USPS:pukey )

thats another thing I hate.. I purchase merchandise worth a couple of G's and they just drop it off at your doorstep..

i think its ok for some cheap stuff like my eyebrows or whatever but when i got exhaust or something like that I tell whoever (egay or online shop) to ship fedex so that doesnt happen (they usually agree)

I just love UPS flat out. Whenever I see the big brown truck pull up to my house, I nearly run out there and shake his hand, because I know something good is coming ;)

So the best way to determine which courier you are going to choose is to go to a local place, say Staples, or a specialized mailing center, and find out prices by UPS and prices by FED-EX, normally UPS will be cheaper, and insurance is around .50 cents USD for $100 USD worth.

They're ALWAYS on time with their deliverys.

the $ difference between UPS and FedEX is around 8-10% (UPS is cheaper)..

And about always delivering on time, that maybe.. But when they deliver it to the wrong address and are unable to retrieve it..
You can probably tell, they have caused a lot of trouble for me.. But it might have just been a bad luck...

When I was bigtime pballer, I was recieving atleast 2 packages a month (and sending atleast 1 every 2 months), and I've had no problems. The only problem I've had is when they tried to deliver and I wasn't home, and when I tried to find their shipping center, It only took me about 2 hrs :) (I got lost.. ahha that sucked)

So I've done a lot of transactions through them...

Worst case scenario is that you will have to drive to their nearest shipping hub, which is normally no more than 10 miles away from your house.

Go UPS all the way, if you want to see your package go with USP. Just when you make the call to have it shipped to you, tell the people to have it deliverd only to you and it must be signed for. If UPS drops it off at your door, call teh company and tell them you never got it and UPS will be force to buy you a second product under their terms of service agreement with the shipper.

Stick with brown they are much better then fedx, trust me

one time i had ups deliver 2 packages for me..i only recieved 1, a few hours later the guy came back and said he dropped the 2nd one off at a different house...so they can bring stuff back...i think they write the address down once its dropped off regardless

I worked at fed ex for awhile..From what I saw I would NEVER send anything fed ex EVER.
