Well you all know i'm in SF, CA right now and i've had a car for the last few days. On my way down the coast the speed limit is 50mph on the highway. Everyone seems to be doing between 45-55mph, traffic is light and no ones going over 60mph. Whats odd is the fact that the posted limit in T.O (home town for me) is 60mph and everyone does between 70-90mph. So I was doing between 90-100mph which is what i would normally drive back home in these driving conditions. I was in the middle lane the whole time, whats up with all the slow people in the fast lane?
Is it just like this out here in Cali or is it like this everywhere in America? I noticed when i was in Hawaii it was like this too, seems to me your speed limits are less then they are up here. Just out of interest what would the charge be for 50mph over the limit? I'm also not a licensed driver for a rental car either.. but lets leave that out of the picture.
pretty much 10-15 over is allowed but when you get into 20, 30, 40, or 50 + miles over....most likely your going to get arrested or if not you'll be looking at a very stiff fine. It does vary from state to state and town to town though....
I usually do about 20-25 over but with the aid of my radar detector....

dont worry your Canadian... they cant do anythin to you....
in cali i'm pretty sure they'll bog you down with fines and shit...you really should go the speed limit...prolly shouldn't go 10 over...
And usually..the speed limit posted is the speed people go...or some of the time atleast...you shouldn't speed either way.

anything over 30+ over is wreakless driving, you don't wan to get pulled over going that fast, Mandatory appernce before a judge, massive fines.....
And you can get a ticket for going 1 mile an hour over the speed limit. But a lot of cops let it slide up to 5miles an hour. Any thing over that is pretty much a ticket.
Alot of people belive that the speed limit is so low because it helps with state funding. For example i get my a ticket for 14 over, The fine was $110. When i got the recipt after i payed the fine it went like this:
Infranction: $8
County Court Cost: $52
State Court Cost: $50
So my speeding was actually only $8...then they raped me with court cost which i never even attended...

 SLOW DOWN!
'Round here, anything over 5 over the speed limit'll get you a ticket. They start at $80 & work their way up.

Yea, I usually go about 15 - 20 over, the only problem is that on the interstate the speed limit is 65, and anything over 80 is automatically reckless driving (or 20+) so I am pushing it when I ride on the interstate.
As for slow people in the fast lane, it happens everywhere I do beleive, I am on the other side of the country and I am always having to pass people on the inside lanes.

On the way back from NOPI a pack of us were going around 135 for about a 15 minute stretch. Talk about some fun, the faster the better. Guess that is why I have always loved racing, get me on the road course baby

Where I'm at, 100 mph equals automatic and immediate time in the pokey. No questions asked, you just get sent to jail. My ex was a sheriff and so were most of his friends. A few of which were CHP's.

Alright well I'll be slowing down folks cause i'm also not legally allowed to drive down here.
As for 100mph being fast, I wouldn't say that it was fast. It might just be me but I think on average you americans drive slower, mayb Toykilla (aka Rob) can back me up on this. I remember him sayign something along the lines of everyone driving fast even in crappy cars while he was up here in canada.
So I'll slow down, and thankfully I'll be leaving in a few days.

ehhh. If the speed limit is 55mph, I usually do about 75-80mph and if its 65mph, I'll do about 85-90mph. But that's providing that there's a minimal amount of other cars on the highway. On backroads and stuff, I'll go anywhere from 10-30mph over the speed limit which is usually 25mph depending on the road and how well I know it. My car handles like a champ because of how low it is.

i lost interest in speeding, i get there when i get there, im never i a rush anywhere, and if i am, i adjust my driving to accomidate it. the only time i really get to listen to music is while driving, and if i have a good CD in, i'll just relax and take my sweet ass time. people rev on me, i laugh, im not out to play speed racer, im driving somewhere. maybe its just me, but after having my car for over a year and a half now, i dont need to remind myself what it does every 30 seconds.

oh i dont need to be reminded. I just dont like spending alot of time waiting to get somewhere. Just because i'm driving fast doesn't mean i'm in a rush. I'm on vacation ya know and I have no set time to be anywhere, I just would rather get there sooner rather then later when there is no goodreason for it to be later. i must admit my FLYING days are over but i still love the speed and on average i would say i drive more responsibly now. hehe
Drivers down here are different i've noticed, and I've had to adjust my driving style because of it. no more speeding until i get my feet back in Canada then... it'll be all good.

i've also been invovled in a wreck where my car rolled over(different car obviosly) and well... that effected me alot. i never wana be involved in another bad wreck again, and well, driving bad/fast is one way to up the chances of that happening. i also had to help my friend pull his GSR off a dirt pile... with a 14 ft canal on the other side because he thoughdriving fast would be fun. he almost died, along with another good friend of mine. after seeing this type of stuff alot, it makes me tink twice about how much fun weaving through traffic/speeding on back roads is. i get more a thrill out of tracks and low speed roads i turned into a road course(<50mph) than car slolumns(sp?)

I don't drive fast to be an @sshole or anything. It's just the way that I drive. If it's somewhere where it's not safe, I'm not doing it. I'm not all wreckless about it. That's how people get killed.

Yeah, I drove wreckless one time. I caught about 7 feet of air. My car did a 180 and landed in a tree. I was going way too fast on a bumpy, windy road because I thought it was cool. I landed myself a fun stay in the hospital and a totaled car.

Thanks, it's good to know that you and your friends were ok too. Want to hear something stupid? My best friend got arrested for DUI twice and has totaled 2 cars all drunk. And she never even got arrested for those accidents. She could of. She got arrested on seperate occasions for other stupid little traffic violations. And that scares me. Hello? After the first car you total, shouldn't that tell you something? My cousin did the same exact thing. And so did the guy that I was just recently with. Self destructive.

just wish she wasnt limited bro.. cause there is soo much more room up there to really open her up. I think the worst time was the time you and I were coming back in the rain and we tried to out run the storm because we didn't want the bikes to get wet. Remember that? And the wippers were bouncing around all over the place... good times mate good times!

Surface roads are 40mph around here, and the interstate loop around the city is 55... I normally go with the flow of traffic on the surface roads, which is normally about 45... on the interstate I keep it at about 70 so I don't get passed left and right... I used to drive fast everywhere, but now the only time that I really "speed" is when nobody is around and someone wants to race, and even then I don't race too long because it is dangerous... just race for 15seconds or so for some fun, then shut it down before I get going 100, because that is way too fast on surface streets, even with no traffic:ricer:

depends on time of day, traffic, location, etc.
I live in MS so there are old country raods everywhere, going out to my friends house i'll go 105 and thats pushing it in my car, but i am quite farmiliar with the road (and its paved for the most part except one gravel patch). The fastest that im willing to go on the highway is 80 and on the interstate 90 so i guess where you live makes a difference.

When I was in phoenix...the speed limit varied from 55-75mph! That was very sweet. My dad was doing ~80-85 the whole time. And Arizona is the state over so I'd have to say it's different!

Since i have 11 points on my liscence, i don't go faster than 10 over normally. Most people go 15 over. I've never heard of 50 over being the norm.
