Do you have a bypass valve? And in your opinion, is it necessary?

Also, depending on where you live, depends if you need it er not.

And also, when i got mine, adn tried to put it on, it gave me a hell of a time. is there a secret?

I have a CAI...I don't havea bypass valve on it. For winter...I converted it into a short ram. I've heard the by pass valve is a waste but I don't have any experience with it. Just what I've heard

i have a cai, i leave it on and i live in WA.. so..

bypass valves are a waste, they make it not a true cold air

and he converts it because he has a 2 piece intake...

Yep...it's a two piece and I just bought a 2.5 inch, 90 degree angle bent plastic pipe and took off one of the pieces off and mounted the filter.

Hey man, do a search. 2ndgenteg (I think it was him) made a good post about this, and we've talked about it numerous times.

I left my CAI on for the winter, drove it through 5 inches of snow with no problem. The only problem I had is that one morning, my filter froze completly and I couldn't start the car cause I couldn't get any air in, so I had to defrost my filter

The first ones had problems. AEM issued a recall (sort of... they gave you a part to fix the problem), but now they are fine.

I've got a CAI and no bypass valve. I havn't run into any problems. I pretty much avoid any deep puddles.
