I was just wondering, which Honda/Acura engine makes the most power of any year/model/etc... we are talking street cars in the US here, not Honda F1 cars or anything... is it the new NSX? Surely they can do better than 290hp, cmon, doesn't the new MDX have 260?:o

Yes the mdx has 260 out of 3.5L v6, the nsx is a 290hp 3.2 V6 and is the most powerful engine they make for street cars. There has always been a 290hp limit to their cars because of an unwritten agreement between jap car manufactures. This has been blown out of the water by some of the other car companies so expect Honda/Acura to blow them out of the water.
Its not because they can't produce more power, they just haven't. Honda/Acura knows how to make a sweet V8 but they've held back.... oh man i cant wait till they start kicking som serious butt.

thats the japanise gentalmens agreement. 280ps(276hp) was the power limit. problem was... honda built the motors to make that power, mitsu, toyota, and nissan built motors to run 450hp safly but restricted them to a claimed 280ps. honda makes good engines, but untill the turbocharge somehting and keep the weight down on their powerful cars(they are kinda hefty) i dont see them making a huge impression on real high performance

oh in america... that agreement went out the window. supras are 320, the 3000gt vr4's are above 300, rotorys held at 280ish i believe, but honda designed a motor for 280, and it stayed there for a while.

double post! :bandit:
Honda will never boost a motor off the essembly line. It was a while back when they decided they would never take the easy way out and boost it.
I'm not sure what your talking about chris they make some kick ass motors that never hit the streets. I believe in due time we will see honda bring out some v8's and some nicer tune v6's to compete with the market. They have never been a company to turn down a challenge and i dont believe they will stop pushing the limits. They do however take a while to respond, but they were the first company to bring out vtec in a productioncar and still have the most hp:L ratio in a production motor.

honda has 2 boosted vehicals in japan actualy. they make nice motors, dont get me wrong, but hoestly for performance, i'd take boost over an increased displacment and weight. the mitsu 4g63 engine(eclipse turbo) has about the same life expectancy and repair cost as a honda h22 engine. honda makes real good commuter engines and economical, but theres a big step to take if they wana get into hard core perforamce or luxory.(awd/rwd and/or turbo and not overcharge for it) even the "awsome" s2k is a nice car, and they managed to get rwd in there too, but the.. 120hp per lt argument dosnt hold much water with a 1/4 mile of about 14 flat from a 35k PERFORAMCE car. they build all around cars, but the problem is, when you want strait line performance, fwd will no cut it, if you want awsome handling fwd will not cut it, 240hp and much less tq isnt very impressive when a nissan toyota or mitsu motor can do that turbocharged, keep the tq curve up, and a nice tq#. if honda can turn some of this around, im all for it, but i dont see it in their future as a company.
my car may not be the fastest thing on the road, but it handles better than most, it may not be the best handling car on the road either, but it is kinda all around, problem is kindea all around dosnt win races, it creates a all around mediocor(sp?) car.
