I just got a Dodge Neon yesterday for a new winter car. Has anyone had one? Does anyone know how there are in the snow? Good on gas mileage? How they handle in general? Problems with the cars?

my room mate from last year's sister used to have one and he only talked shit about it. but I also know a guy that owns one now and really likes it. He even drives it in Michigans Upper Penn. and they get more snow than anywhere in the US

dodge.......hmmmmm.......i loved my stratus but my bf hated it since he had to rebuild the engine. (head gasket)

One of my friends has one and the head gasket just went on it so naturally, all she does is trash her car. So I was looking for some unbiased opinions. A head gasket can go on any car though, you know? So that doesn't really concern me. Unless all these people start telling me that their head gaskets blew on their Neons.

dodge's are known to have head gaskets go on them. teh motor in my stratus was a pain to get too, but besides that i loved that car! it was awesome in teh snow, it got ok gas milage but then again i went form a quad 4 to a v6. big difference! but also remember i am talking stratus not a neon. neons look nice and thats all i know about them.

LOL, that was funny. You know how there are some people out there that do REALLY stupid things to Neons? Like put Type R stickers on them and stuff. I should do that. And get some of those "chrome" hubcaps from Wal Mart.

HAAAAAAAAAAAA...Someone gave me an aluminum spoiler not too long ago and it's just sittin around. I should mount that on there and get one of those cheesy muffler tip things that just make the car sound like it's got balls. And put Nascar stickers on it. And get some of those graphics that they put on all the cars in The Fast and the Furious.

get rid of that car while it still drives... never i repeat never by a dodge car or truck. You are asking for soooo much trouble!

Sell the dam thing and by yourself a 92-94 civic, you will be sooo much happier.

It's just for the winter though. I can't get a civic that cheap.

Noooooooooo. No more body kits. I can't drive my Accord really at all in the winter with how much I dropped it and the kit. It's slammed. I can't even get my foot all the way under it. It get's stuck about half way. Stickers, yes. Anything inexpensive, yes.

thats pretty low... do you scrape the road often?

for the neon, what you could do is put a double racing stripe on the centre of the hood, roof and trunk,

msvtec14

That shit would be HOT. I might just have to sell my Accord if it's gonna be that way. LMAO "cardboard body kit". I could duct tape it on there. And then when it rains just laugh when it disolves and falls off. If I got the Wal Mart wheel covers then I would just have to put WAL MART RACING on the side. I'm going to take an old cardboard box and fashion it into a front mount intercooler with some straws. And somehow make an intake out of a paper towel tube and make the air filter out of one of those puffy shower sponge things.

Sorry about that, I did not see your question. Yes, with my Accord I scrape BIG TIME. At my sideskirts the car is just almost 2 inches off the ground and at my front bumper, it is 2 and 1/2 inches. I initially dropped it with the Gold Line springs and then with the kit it just got soooooooo much lower. Obviously not in the wheel wells but you know what I mean. There is some carbon fiber plating that I can put under it and I have all intentions of doing so. To get the hydraulic lift under the car, the lift has to be unplugged and slid under the rear bumper which is no problem. If I'm not 100 % careful, I scrape without a doubt. Speedbumps are out of the question. I've thought about raising it back up a little but I love it the way it is. I'm very careful.

Actually that's what my friend and I did to his old nissan stanza before he bought his new Corolla. We had a full kit on it, Deer antleers(sp?) on the front, we used a Big ass coffee can as the muffler, and used a snow shovel as the wing. We had it on Cardomain but for some reason they deleted it. It actually withstood rain, snow, and speeds of 80 mph. All I got to say is i'm glad we didn't get shot cruisen down the strip with it.

that sounds preety sweet... do you have a picture of your car?

msvtec14
12-14-2002, 02:53 PM
Yeah, I have a lot of pics of my car. I've documented my car since I got it. Everytime I did something new, I took pics. I just have one issue. I don't have them in my computer. I'm going to take some soon with a dig camera but I'm really not good with all this computer stuff and getting them on here. Anyone remember when I had to have someone else post my pic? That is amazing about the Corolla. I would love to see that. So, the Neon looks like an Easter Egg. It's not blue but it's not purple. It's just weird. I have all my emblems for my Accord and those are going to go on there today along with some Goldline and Enkei stickers providing that I can locate them.

On the Neon. I think that it would be funny. You know that people are gonna be like, "What the hell is this girl thinkin?!" The rain that we've had for the past few days actually cleared up a lot of the sand so I got to take my Accord out today for the first time in almost 3 weeks but I had to put it away again because my dad said it's supposed to snow again. How could I attach the emblems to the Neon? I found my Goldline stickers too. But I don't have the pimpin Wal Mart hubcaps yet. When I buy new rims for my Accord, I should throw my Enkeis on the Neon.

OH YEAH!!! I want to go for the gaudiest ones possible. The car does not even have hubcaps on it right now. I know that I've been busting on it but it really is a good little car just to have as a crasher. It's really good on gas and it handles pretty well too. I really wish that I could somehow show you guys the color because that alone would just make it so much more funnier if it were all riced out. I'm going to start taking pics of my Accord and I'm going to also put the Neon all up next to my Accord in various poses like it's all badass.

and one more thing when you get the hubcaps get them 1 or 2" bigger than the rim size, just for that low profile look :loco: ;)

PROPS to you for that suggestion. Seriously, the rims on the car look like 8's or something. They're mad little. They're like the riding lawnmower tires. Ok, but do you think the size difference would make it harder to get them on there properly? You know that I'll just force them on there. And then they'll crack right near where the lugs would be ('m assuming that's how they go on) and they'll fly off on the highway or something. YES. Those would go great with the cardboard body kit that dissolves in the rain. The type R Neon.

what year is your neon, and whats the mileage?

msvtec14
12-16-2002, 12:51 PM
The Neon is a 95 and it has about 122,000 miles on it. I really want hondastyle stickers. But for my Honda. Not just the Neon. I've already found a shitload of Type R emblems on e-bay and they're only around $10. Ok, check this out though. The type R Neon is 2 different colors. I've described the weird purple blue color that makes up the body. The bumpers are this weird gray. And it's not primer. I should really just make the car all primered.

Okay, I wish I had a picture of this car but I dont so you will have to take my word for it.

There use to be a Neon that ran around here that was that purple color. Well we think it was purple anyhow. The thing had so much white vinyl on it we arent sure it wasnt white with purple vinyl. But anyhow, he had a huge wood wing spray painted white. Had so many sticker on it, it was plain obnoctious, they were even on his lights. He said he had a supercharger, turbo and NOS on it.. His NOS was a helium tank with a garden hose ran to it.:loco: He had chrome hubcaps that he later painted white.

He actually beat my friend's nice Eclipse GSX at a car show!!!:banghead: :censored:

Anyway.. That was "sweetest" Neon I have ever seen!:yuck:

I hit a deer last year. I took my boyfriend at the time out to eat. We were driving and this deer just busted out into the road. And then his friend followed. But, I didn't hit it head it head on. It just ran into the side of my Accord when I was doing like 50mph. And I stopped and it was still alive. A shitload of cops came, blocked off the road and shot it in the head because I didn't kill the poor thing. It was the worst thing ever.

LOL to that they just wanted to shoot something. Want to hear something else weird? This big, sasquatch looking man had seen the whole thing and he came up to us and asked us if we wanted the deer. Obviously, I was all traumatized enough and said no. And this dude straight up slung the deer up over his should and put it in the back of his mini-van. WTF was that? Yup! Middle of nowhere.

Good thing that it didn't happen in the Type R Neon. Because I think the deer would just crash through the car. Ugh, there's a lot of rednecks around here too. I live in a mountain valley. Well, I know I wouldn't take the deer, but there is nothing wrong with eating deer. Some people go hunting for them on purpose. So it's not really the traditional "road kill". It just that hunting is the part of the fun, and here it was accidental. But I hear deer is actually pretty good. Don't think Iever ate one though.

In terms of food, I will pretty much try anything once. Unless it is really really gross. Like poo or something. I've had deep before. It's ok. Nothing compared to filet mignon which is the best.

Eh, I don't know. I backed into one of those big blue mailbox things going at a pretty good speed just a few hours ago and nothing hapenned. I just spilled coffee on myself. I was looking at these busted Christmas decorations and I was backing up. The type R Neon does not have power steering and I had a little trouble with the coffee in my hand and I just went into the mailbox. And bounced right off of it. It was funny.

Sorry to offend you with my hasty decision but to be perfectly honest with you, I did not even pick the car out. My father did. He has a dealers license and he got it at an auction for little to nothing and I'm giving him money for it. Because the engine in my truck blew. Obviously, I crack on the Neon because I'd prefer to drive my Honda over it but I still do appreciate it because it is a car and it gets from point A to B. And this whole thing is not about dissing Neons. People prefer different things as everyone is different. It is however about dissing the people that do dumb things to Neons and think they're badass.

I drove a neon in an MTV special "Fast Enough", i blew the engine in the second lap. According to dodge this was their GT model, or something like that. The instructor told me to push it in second, and i did. guess the valve springs over heated and that just f**ked something up good.

I think he means SVT. I dont think there is a Neon GT. Its probably just a slightly bigger motor and more frills.

Anyone seen the new Neon sport model? It comes off the line turbocharged, with 17" rims and look real nice, actually. Not joking.

I thought of some more things you could do to the PROJECT CRAP NEON:

- Go to decaldriveway and get some stickers made:
NEONS SUCK
I'd rather be driving my honda...

label all your "aftermarket" parts:
stylish rims! (and an arrow pointing at it), you get the idea.

Find yourseld a coffee can and make a fart exhuast.

Get a folding chair and have someone weld it on the trunk. adds 20hp at the wheels!

LMAO. FART EXHAUST. My bro is anti-import so he just has to call everyone's exhaust "fart pipes". It all started when a Civic pulled up at an intersection and started to rev and my brother got all pissed because the kid was being really gay about it and he just yelled "Shut the f*ck up with your little fart pipes over there!". Then the kid wouldn't even race. Anywho, back to Neons. Yesterday, one of my stupid Yokohamas went flat on my Accord and there were all these kids at the gas station I was at and one had this sport Neon that you speak of. At least I think it was. He was saying stuff about more horsepower and all this stuff. I told him that we should roll out in our Neons. Wait, just have someone just weld the whole chair? In the posistion that someone could sit in?

I don't even know what SVT means. Isn't it used for Mustangs? I swear that's where I've heard it before. I think. I don't even care because I have a Type R Neon and Hot Pockets is about to sponsor me. ;)

ohhhhHHHhhh, I get it now. LOL that you gave me an analogy. Thanks ! ! ! I found it weird one time on EBay that I saw a FlowMaster exhaust for a Honda. I've seen FlowMaster on all domestics. Never a Honda. It was strange.

yeah I meant weld the whole chair on there like someone could sit there. You wouldn't even have to weld it, just drill some screws and attach it like a spoiler. Cut the back of the chair off so its just the seat. Then it'll be a hardcore 1337 spoiler!

Actualyl SVT is not quite like that..

SVT stands for Special Vehicle Team, its a company that helps design vehicles for performance reasons... not quite like Saleen, and Not Quite like Spoon, more in the middle :)

svt is a division of ford motor company.

it's their Special Vehicle Team..

It's part of ford.

It's like TRD for toyota. Toyota Research and Design... it's a designation givin to cars that have gotten revamped by a special team at the factory.

Do you think that I'd get in trouble for driving around with a chair attached to my hood though? Once it gets warmer/and I get more done to it, I'll start showing my car. But it's not what you call an "everyday" driver. If I ever tried taking it to Old Englishtown NJ, I know for a fact that I'd take my bumper off while driving through NY on those shitty roads. Ok, please no one laugh at this question...You guys know those trailer things that you can tow cars around in? Do you think the Neon would be able to tow my Accord on a trailer?

yes it could probably, you would need to find a proper hitch though

heres 1min worth of searching on google

Hey, thanks for that. Ha ha. It says BALLMOUNT on that website. I think that would look funny. A riced out Neon towing an Accord.

Oh my god. I went out to the Neon earlier and I saw that there is a crack in the front bumper. And I know damn well that I didn't do it. BONDO. On plastic.

First off, what kind of engine is in there? Lift hood and check the tag on frame. Do you have engine code: 420a? If so, YOU GOT A DAMN FINE ENGINE that I know TONS about.

Ok, I'm going to look at that tag once I get out of work at 12. I hope it's the damn fine one. Heh, yesterday I was blasting through puddles in it and the car made this loud squealing noise for a minute. Timing belt? I'm assuming that's what it was because that hapenned to one of my other cars.

blasting through puddles  poor neon

perhaps you should thoroughly check all the belts... they might be in real rough shape

Ok, so I invented a new sport with the Neon this past Saturday night. It is called garbage can bowling. This is something that happens in the early morning hours. It involves making my friend get out of the car to line up garbage cans in the middle of the road while I'm sitting there with my headlights off. And then I throw it in reverse and back away. And then I floor it and blast through the garbage cans. Not metal ones thought. The big Rubbermaid ones.

nonovurbizniz, you've got to get a pic of me doing that with a stolen park bench on the trunk.

I used to do that to cardboard movie stand-ups! We used to record our antics also, and the video is famous around here.

Anyway msvtec, I've got one of those stupid type R emblems. It came off of this old crappy prelude at the junkyard. I've also got one of those superstreet radioactive emblems. I have no use for rice badges, but they'd clash nicely with a neon...

Aaaaa Haaaaa. Cardboard movie stand-ups? That's funny. It must be even funnier to be in car heading towards one of those. The best part about garbage can bowling is the noise. I'll send you some of those fed-ex envelopes if you want to send me those emblems. You want some $$$? I can send you a check or something. I've got my Accord emblems that I'm putting on there too but I can't figure out how to get them on.

it was funny to be heading towards a big thing going 45 at 2 am in the theater parking lot. every instinct tells you to stop! ah those were the days...

these emblems just use glue, or some kind of adhesive. just email me, blind34_1@lycos.com, and I'll tell ya where to send an envelope.

this will look great! A Type R Neon that is radioactive!

K, I'm going to drop you a line today. All I have to say is...for a car that we've been dissing on, the Type R radioactive Neon handles pretty well in the snow. I was pretty surprised. OMG, you used to do that in the parking lot of the movies?! Did anyone else see this other you and your friends? That's great :D I'm going to start doing some stunts in the snow.

sorry, there is an underscore between the 4 and the 1. I should really get another address.

Yeah, once we had an audience. This is at like 2 in the morning, though. We convinced our cool manager to let us "dispose" of the old movie standups. I think the first one was "Black Knight". We got a whole bunch of extension cords and ran them from booth (where the projectors are) out the door and way far out into the parking lot. My friend was recording. I say a few words to mark the occasion, and speed off way far down to the other end of the lot, playing "Break Stuff". I flash my brights, rev a few times, and punch it. After a perfect shift into second, all you see is my car smashing through this mass of cardboard. All I see is this black dude in a chain mail hurling toward me. I backed up and ran him over a few times more. It was great! We did this I think four more times, until the district manager heard what we were doing with them.

We had only one VHS tape and we let my friends brother borrow it, to show to his friends. They all thought it was hilarious, and it is legend around here. Unfortunatly, the video was lost forever. nobody knows where it is! That had all sorts of good stuff on it, back from when we would break stuff in gym class. we seriously brought a full size video camera into our gym class and nobody saw! We did all our work on the old Jesus video that was littered on everyones doorstep around here...anyway.

This is getting way OT, but oh well its still funny.

I thought of something else for the neon, get a whole bunch of fog lights! dont pay anything for them, see if you can ghettofy something.

omg, I saw a nasty civic with a bench, fart exhuats, and huge comic font lettering on the side that said VTEC. I thought of the TypeR neon!

Ok, I know that I'm doing it to the Neon...but why do people put Type R or V-Tec stickers on cars that really aren't?? I'm sure that some of those cars are actually what the stickers say but there's a whole lot that aren't. I'm doing it to the Neon to make fun of those people. But I just can't figure out why anyone would do that with seriousness. Posers. I'd be so embarassed if I tried to pull that off seriously and then I got caught out. We were driving on Christmas Eve and there was some Civic similar to the one that you're talking about that cut my bro off and was reving the fart pipes and then my bro pulled up to him in the next lane to race and embarassed this kid.

That would look obnoxious. :D I think this car is about to die. The check engine light came on and then I started to feel the transmission slip. Turns out there was no transmission fluid. And then my dad used one of those diagnostic computers and the check engine light was coming on due to the oxygen sensor being totally shot in it. The car is doing WEIRD things.

Yeah. Because of the stupid transmission, I went into a hill the other night. It was snowing and I had to floor it just to get it to shift gears. So I did this in the snow around a little bend and ended up doing a 180 and going into this little hill/ravine like thing. We did not get hurt at all. Neither did the car. I seriously laughed for about 20 minutes about it though. It was weird because I was so calm when all of it was going down.

so how did you get out of the ravine? you just drive off... or ...?

msvtec14
01-07-2003, 08:49 AM
Yeah, basically. It wasn't this huge ditch or anything. There was a hill and then right before that hill there was a little scoop thing in the ground. The back end of the car and a little of the drivers side was really the only part that went down the incline. I got out of it with a little effort but then I had to pretty much do a K turn so I was facing the right direction.
