I've tried several 'Pop-up ad killers' over the last couple of years, but there always seems to be something or another that conflicts with my 'surfing' habits. None of them are perfect, but I wanted to let ppl know what I'm currently using, in case you want to check it out. It's called Bayden PopupPopper and it's freeware.
Bayden PopupPopper works as good as anything I've tried, it's simple, and it's freeware. Here's their URL:

Let me know if you're using something better...

Is it spyware free? I assume it is, but just thought I'd ask.

i use earthlink pop up blocker. never had any pop ups, not even the ones that need to, plus you can put entire sites to unblock the pop ups. on a scale of 1-10 i give it 8.5

I used to use Tiny Personal Firewall.
It's freeware and if you configure it right it won't even let you go to a site unless you say it's ok.
It also stops programs from sending info in/out including windows or any other MS product.
IT IS GODDAM fantastic.
It's a REAL pain to use/configure but once you have it set up it is UNREAL how much control you have over I/O.
Oh ya and it tells you when your getting scanned by who and they're IP.

For general web surfing I use WebWasher. Free for private home use.
I'm not sure if it's spyware free or not, but then again I don't really care excessively. It blocks web bugs, filters ads from web pages, eliminates almost all popups (only 1 site has ever gotten a popup to pass through it and the WebWasher people couldn't duplicate it), will block java, and has lots of general customizable options. It'll block whole sites if you'd like it to.
It doesn't block everything, I have been to sites that still somehow manage to change my Homepage in my browser or automatically add things to my favorites, I haven't figured out how they do it yet. I thought I had it locked down pretty well.
Overall I rate it well. It is a boon for modem users since it filters out ads BEFORE it downloads the data so it'll improve download times for general surfing, or so they claim. I've only used it on high bandwidth networks.
I rate it very highly but there are some sites where it must be turned off for proper functionality depending on how you configure it.

I've tried Popup Stopper and didn't care for it. Bayden PopupPopper is much better IMHO.
I've tried scores of these programs. None of them are perfect. That's how I found out about PopupPopper. It wasn't the 1st one I tried or even the 21st. It's just the best I've run across so far. If something better comes along, I'll use that.
Actually, I've been working on a friend's computer for the last week. I used his machine for an experiment, since the installation is relatively fresh and easy to reconfigure if something goes wrong. I can't tell you how many piss-poor popup killers I ran across - all claiming to be the best. None of them holds a candle to Bayden PopupPopper.
Here are a few test pages I use. See how YOUR popup killer works on them:This is a TOUGH page. PopupPopper won't stop the animations (which are NOT popups and I want to see anyway) and the Ad-ware Popup SIMULATION (which I don't have a problem with)...
http://www.dummysoftware.com/popupdummy_testpage.html Stops 100% on this page...
http://www.adsgone.com/pops/test.asp 100% on this one too:
http://www.tooto.com/simpletest.htm 100%...
http://www.guardwall.com/English/GuardIE/tests/popups.asp
Will NOT stop embedded Geocities ads...
http://www.geocities.com/guardwall/FailSafe_Test_Page.html 100%...
http://www.webwasher.com/en/products/wwash/testpag1.htm
Bayden PopupPopper stopped EVERYTHING on all these pages (except the Ad-ware simulation on the first page) and the embedded Geocities ad. Like I said, NOTHING is perfect, however, it's small, fast and free...
How does your popup killer work on these pages???

How's Bayden on system resources?

Good question! I don't know. I looked in my W2K Task Manager under both apps and processes, to find out what's going on, but I can't tell. Task Manager is showing that it's running inside Explorer, and only when it blocks a popup. If it isn't blocking something, it disappears from the running apps list. PopupPopper is nothing but a DLL file, so...
If you are asking if it slows the machine down, the answer is no. One of the popup killers I tried on my friend's machine was UNBELIEVABLY SLOW. I mean, I would click on a link, go get a cup of coffee, come back and the page still wasn't loaded - and I'm NOT exaggerating.
EDIT: Here's the POS I was talking about. #1 worst I've tried:

Interesting. I think I'll give it a shot then. I have installing software that bloats the system, but this seems like a solid app.

Yep!
A couple of things:
It runs uses it's own library, so when you install it, it will automatically download the runtime files it needs, if you don't have them on your computer; which you won't. This is one of the reasons the proggie works so well; kinda weird seeing this happen, but don't let it worry you. The new runtime files won't hurt your computer in any way...
And, when you run it, turning on your 'Scroll Lock' blocks all popups. This is what I do. Otherwise, it will be ask you if you want to block popups every time they occur.
CTRL-key temporarily allows popups when you hold it down.
Very simple proggie, but takes a little getting used to, like they all do.

Cool!
I was looking in my download directory. I did a D/L and tried it on 11-11-02. Pop-Up Stopper v2.92, right?
EDIT: Hahahaha! Just looked up Bayden PopupPopper. D/L it on 11-12-02. Been using it ever since. That's a long time in 'computer years.' Probably tried 10 different ones since then.

Anybody have WebWasher and try it on all those links? I don't have net access at home anymore so I can't test it.
