View Full Version : How stupid is this idea?

OK, I KNOW this is probably retarded...but I have a DREAM. :)

I have a 1987 Civic 4 door...you know, the real ugly body style. Teehee. Anyway. This is my replacement car, as my last project car was stolen. So, I'm driving the daily beater with Automatic tranny. It's ugly as sin... ;)

So, here's my dream:
I want to keep it almost completely stock looking, with a few exceptions: I'd like to work on the body, make it ding-free, get a nice paint job, nice SI wheels from a newer civic..I want it to look nice, but COMPLETELY STOCK.
However, I want it to be QUICK. I want to surprise the crap out of unsuspecting cars at stoplights. There's nothing more fun than having a REAL sleeper. :)
Question is, are there any swap kits for that car? I'd love to do a b16a. That's all the power I really need...
Any suggestions?

I'm almost sure a b16 will not mount up directly, and some body work will have to be done to the engine bay to make it fit. But yea, convert to manual, and your ride will smoke f00lz ;)

Yes indeed. That would be an awesome sleeper, although there are not as many direct bolt ons designed specifically for 87's...I'm sure it wouldnt take much to modify 88-91 parts.

A ZC should bolt right in, with minor wiring mods, and a b16 would surly go in with a mounting kit.

I certainly wouldn't suspect an 87 civic sedan. lose the automatic when you do a swap though. make it fun.

Oh, I'll lose the auto for sure. :)

Now I just need to find a shop who will give me a decent deal on a b16a INSTALLED. teehee. Sleeper indeed.

Go with a B16a1- it uses a cable tranny which is what you want. The B16a2 is not what you want, because it has a hydrolic transmission.

thanks for the suggestion.
Anyone know where I can price an engine/tranny combo?

Thanks again!
Mark

PS: I'm close to Dallas, if that makes a difference! I'm in Oklahoma City which is only about 2 hrs north of Dallas...

There are alot of sites to find engines. They'll almost always have to be imnported, which means a mad lot of shipping. It seems to go for about 300 for shipping alone. Look in the links section on this site. I recently posted a page that links to several engine importers.

a kit for the b16a engines with cable type tranny...so it will bolt right up... :)
Is the B16a1 vtec? What's the HP rating? If my memory serves me correctly, Honda didn't introduce VTEC until 94+? Is an older-gen b16 worth the money to swap? Any help would be great. THanks
